Make it through Midterms!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Is anyone else in disbelief that it is already October? It seems crazy that we are almost half way through the semester and that we’ve been in classes for almost seven weeks now. That said, Fall Break is just a short week away, which only means that midterms are in full force. It’s hard enough already to juggle school, work, studying, and friends so here are a few tips to keep stress at a minimum so that you can really rock your midterms!

1. Eat healthy and drink water. If there was ever a week to stay away from fries from the grill and wraps from the Cove this would be the week. Stay away from fried foods and chips and stock up on lots of salads and fruits and be sure to drink lots of water which will help keep up your energy and focus!

2. Get enough sleep. I know how challenging getting enough sleep can be, but getting proper amounts of sleep each night has been proven to improve memory (which we all need for taking tests) and it will help you avoid falling asleep in class so that you can pay attention and absorb all of the information you need to do well on exams!

3. Get outside. The week before Fall Break is suppose to be beautiful and warm, so the perfect way to take a study break would be to take a walk outside (along the bluff is great) and get some fresh air and exercise to rejuvenate you for studying!

4. Time management. Try and stay away from Netflix and other distracting websites like Pinterest (so hard!) during midterms week. Your reward for studying hard and staying focused will be doing whatever you want during Fall Break. Cut out distractions for just a few days and your grades will thank you!

5. Spend time with friends. A great way to take a study break is to take some time away from the books and be with your favorite people! It helps to take your mind off of studying for a little while to give your brain a break. If you are dedicated you can even make a study group with your friends and quiz each other and teach each other material that may be confusing so that everyone will do great!

Remember these few tips and you will have a well-balanced week so that these upcoming tests will be your best midterms yet! Just keep in mind that Fall Break is your reward and that it is just a few days away. It’s safe to say that we all deserve a little relaxing time. Happy studying!

Hi Friends! My name is Sam and I'm a senior Biology major at UP. I'm also the 4th floor RA in Mehling (the best dorm ever)! Here are a few things that I love right now: tea, friends, sunshine, bows, scarves, salted caramel anything, and hand-written letters. I'm so excited to be a member of Her Campus here at UP and can't wait to share new and fun things with everyone!
