Best Places on Campus to Cry: Hofstra Edition

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

Not to quote Hannah Montana, but ‘nobody’s perfect’, and sometimes we all need to let out a good cry. College is a stressful time and we have a lot on our plates. Unfortunately for us, we sometimes can’t keep it in any longer and the privacy of our dorm room is not an option. So whether you’re going through dating drama or have the professor from hell, here are the best places on Hofstra’s campus to have a breakdown.

1. The Bathrooms of Gallon Wing

The building already sounds like it was named after a corridor at Hogwarts and the bathroom is suitable for any emotional witch or wizard. I think when they were designing this bathroom they had designed it for a student who appreciates their own space, because it is actually a decent place to spend some time in. Not to mention, Gallon houses many literature and creative writing courses so you can just blame your tears on some particularly moving poetry.

2. The Bathrooms in the Basement of Memorial Hall

Yet another bathroom, I know such a cliché. But these bathrooms are huge and no one ever uses them. Let’s not forget that Bits and Bytes is right upstairs, so after a release you can treat yourself to a burger or some Red Mango!

3. Studios in Calkins

These are a bit trickier during the day, but let’s say you have a breakdown during the later hours of the day. Most of the studio spaces are empty and available to students, and they provide a relaxing space to take a breather away from a conventional classroom. Plus if you get caught, the art students of Calkins will understand that you have a strong infinity for Renaissance painters and come there to express your love for art through raw emotion.

4. The Library Study Floors

This one is only good if you’re a silent crier, but there are often many floors in the library that are pretty vacant. It is easy to find a quiet nest within the shelves of the books that no one ever reads and have a private moment as long as you don’t distract others from their studies.

5. Pretty much anywhere in Gittleson, Marigotta, Hagedorn

Because who actually has classes in these buildings anyways.
