7 Phases of Getting through the Second Teaching Period

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

Now that the we’re crossing over to the second teaching period, many of us are getting over the excitement about autumn and have started to feel the pressure of our school responsibilities.

1. You’re realizing that school work is taking up all your time. That or procrastinating with the help of Netflix.Even if you start the period with a positive attitude, you notice that more and more of your time goes into school work or into avoiding school work by marathoning Gilmore Girls.

2. At lectures you just nod your head hoping that some day you’ll actually understand what the teacher is trying to explainWe’ve all been there: you start our classes thinking it’s not that difficult, but by the third lecture you’re totally out of the game. Your brain is just not comprehending it. Don’t worry – you’re not stupid. It happens to us all.

3. After you’ve pulled several all-nighters to try and cram all that knowledge into your head, you’re reaching the breaking pointYou figured all-nighters would be a good idea. They’re not. Never. You just end up losing sleep, getting more tired and more unfocused. Get some sleep – at least then you have some sort of a shot at understanding your material.

4. You desperately ask everyone for help and to be your study buddyMost of us find it easier to study with a friend: it helps when you can bounce ideas off of another person and to talk things through out loud. Too bad everyone’s too busy to help. Also, desperation is not attractive!

5. When you can’t get study help from a friend, you turn to the one friend who never lets you downIt’s easy to give up and head to the nearest bar. Just don’t. With a hangover, there’s less of a chance of you getting anything done. It’s okay to party but don’t overdo it and don’t drown your sorrows. You can always reward yourself after a good few hours of studying.

6. You’re shocked every time you find out you passed the examSometimes it’s hard to believe that something out of those crazy days/afternoons/nights of studying actually stuck. You weren’t sure you had it in you but you actually kicked some serious butt in those exams!

7. But as soon as the semester is over, you’re like
