Abby Sun, class of 2013, is our Campus Celebrity this week. Sun is concentrating in Visual and Environmental Studies and is Co-President of Sexual Health Education and Advocacy throughout Harvard College (SHEATH) with Samantha Meier. This week you will see Sun running around campus as she makes sure that Sex Week at Harvard runs smoothly.
1. Tell us a little bit more about yourself.
Before college, I had a goldfish for six years (the same goldfish). I’ve also never broken a bone, and my ears aren’t pierced!
2. What are some activities you are involved in?
SHEATH and Peer Contraceptive Counselors.
3. What are your plans this summer?
I will be going on a roadtrip to make a series of landscape photographs (and maybe a documentary) along the portion of the US-Canadian border than runs along the 49th parallel. I’m interested in how borders and borderlands come to be.
4. What are you most excited about during Sex Week?
ALL the events! It’s so hard to choose– we have so many great speakers, panelists, and moderators, and it’s amazing to see the outpour of support from the student body here at Harvard.
5. What made you decide to start Sex Week?
We wanted to connect students and organizations to the amazing resources that already exist on campus! We also think that demystifying things only leads to healthy conversations, and that it was time for students to create the types of educational opportunities that we want.
6. What are your dream jobs?
To be a visual artist working in a variety of mediums.
7. What has been your most rewarding moment at Harvard this year?
Going to see a lecture by Walid Raad, held as part of a series of artist’s talks in the Carpenter Center.
