This Week in the News

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Bucknell chapter.

Let’s pop the Bucknell Bubble and take a look at what’s going on in other news.

Palestinian Buses in Israel. While this has been in the news for a while, the buzz has picked up again, as one of the buses was recently set on fire. If you need a refresher, earlier on this month, the Israeli government started operating a Palestinian-only bus service to transport workers to and from the West Bank into Israel.  Why is this so controversial? Um, it’s only a civil rights/segregation issue between the two nation-states with one of the oldest conflicts in the contemporary Middle East. Check out what the Guardian has to say about it, here.

Pope Francis might not be so saintly. Now that the Catholic Church has found a replacement for Benedict, it’s about time the new Pope’s dirty laundry was aired for all to see. It seems that the new Pope Francis might have known that an Archbishop in his Archdiocese was molesting prepubescent boys. Read up on the scandal, here.

Drug Recall. Health care providers were urged to stop using all products   from New Jersey drug company, Med Prep, after fungus was found in some of their products. While the recall is still voluntary at this point, the FDA strongly encourages it. This one hits close to home, as one of the states to which Med Prep ships is Pennsylvania! Find out more about situation here.

We’re Going Dancing! In case you live under a rock, Bucknell made it to the NCAA tournament for the sixth time in its history. We’re set to play Butler on Thursday, March 21st.  What could possibly be more exciting than making it to the Big Dance? Oh, just being called the Cinderella team of the tournament! Read up, get hyped!

Sarah Dubow graduated from school in 2013 and is a Digital Strategist at Marina Maher Communications in New York City. After serving as Campus Correspondent at Bucknell University, she is so excited to continue being a part of the Her Campus team! Besides traversing the city and trying to figure out what being a "real person" really means, Sarah loves long walks on the beach, sipping pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain (kidding!). Real favorites include traveling, writing, kickboxing, and making up ridiculous lyrics to the latest songs. She absolutely loves anything that involves cupcakes, butterflies, glitter, and anything Parisian and specializes in baking with far too much chocolate and obsessively watching shows bound to be cancelled after the first season. Though the long term path for this post-grad collegiette remains unclear, she's looking forward to all the new 20-something adventures that await her!
