Her Campus: What does your current job entail?
aliza bogner alison brod PRAliza Bogner: I have three main responsibilities at Alison Brod PR. I handle all the accounting/finances for the company. Also, I coordinate different HR aspects, from payroll and employee benefits to making sure everyone likes the person in the desk next to them. Finally, I manage our company internship program throughout the year. There is no such thing as a typical day for me, but every workday starts with the New York Post on the subway. It usually ends with a memoir for the ride home. I love learning about people’s lives, which is why I enjoy working in HR.

HC: What was your first entry-level job in your field and how did you get it?
AB: It was at Alison Brod Public Relations and I found it on a job searching website. I think I came in for at least six interviews before landing the job. I was the ninth employee hired. Now, we have more than 50 employees.

HC: What is one thing you wish you knew about your industry when you first started out that you know now?
AB: I wish I knew that people are mostly consistent. Interns who work hard will turn into great employees. If someone comes late to an interview, they are likely to arrive late to work. A loyal employee will remain loyal.  Mostly, I have learned that when people try to be someone they are not, it will eventually show.

HC: Who is one person who changed your professional life for the better?
AB: It would have to be Alison Brod. She has always had faith in my capabilities. Knowing someone who I respect and admire believes in me is great. It makes it easier to reach my professional goals.

HC: What words of wisdom do you find most valuable?
AB: Know your audience and know what you are talking about. If someone is coming to interview with me, they need to have done their research. I once interviewed someone who mentioned a tweet we had posted only an hour or so before she came to the office—I loved that.
