Movin' On4/29/2012 |
The Movin’ On concert series was held last weekend and hundreds of students gathered in the fields by Beaver stadium for one last big event before moving on to the summer. The big acts were Young the Giant, Ludacris and The Avett Brothers. Students braved the brisk April temperatures and danced the night away. Now we all move on to finals week and graduation. Good luck everyone. |
Blue and White Weekend4/23/2012 |
Blue and White weekend turned out better than expected this year. The festivities kicked off on Friday with the carnival, including wing fest and a performance by the much loved band, Go Go Gadjet. On Saturday the rain held off much longer than predicted, so everyone was able to enjoy the game and the tailgating. Now, the countdown for football season begins.

Calves, Pigs and Sheep, Oh My4/16/2012 |
Last week the college of agricultural sciences hosted Ag Day. Located in Alumni Hall and on the Hub lawn, students were invited to see what agricultural science entails. Different tables were set up, highlighting the many clubs and organizations within the college, and the students were encouraged to walk around and participate in educational activities. I got to pin the tail on the pony, plant a flower and match agricultural resources with the corresponding country. After completing three activities, I received a free cone of creamery ice-cream. Outside there were baby calves, pigs and sheep. It’s not every day you see farm animals on the Hub lawn. |
Exploring the Millennium Science Complex4/9/2012 |
Sometimes we can get sucked in to our daily routine of traveling back and forth to class on the same routes every week. But with final weeks approaching, maybe it’s time to de-stress and take a walk to somewhere new. So if you're always stuck on west campus like me, try taking a trip over to the Millennium Science Complex on Pollock road and walk through the garden under the brilliant new architectural overhang. While you’re there, sit down and take a nice big breath. |
Red Hand Campaign on Campus4/2/2012 |
The Red Hand Campaign is designed to draw attention to child soldiers. Last week, there was poster in the HUB, to bring additional attention to the campaign. Astonishingly, UNICEF has estimated that nearly 300,000 children under 18 are currently forced into armed conflict. Want more information? Visit the Red Hand Campaign's website to see what you can do to contribute. |
Spring has Sprung in Happy Valley3/26/2012 |
Campus has come alive in the past few weeks due to the abnormally warm weather, and that has definitely been a treat for Penn Staters. Much earlier than normal, the flowers are blooming, the sun tanners are lounging, the frisbees are flying and the ice cream is abundant. Happy Spring everyone, don’t waste a minute of this gorgeous weather. |
New Cata Buses3/19/2012 |
New CATA buses arrived on campus while we were away on spring break and more buses are planned to arrive in April. The new improvements have created quite a stir, since CATA has looked the same for so long. So hop on one soon, before that new bus smell wears off. |
Local Irish Cheer3/13/2012 |

Lady Lions Pink Zone Game2/27/2012 |
This Sunday was the 6th Annual WBCA Pink Zone game for our Lady Lions. The BJC was packed with tons of supportive fans and breast cancer survivors. The purpose of the Pink Zone game was to raise awareness and to increase fundraising efforts for breast cancer research and treatment at local medical centers and institutions. The Lady Lions played a great game too, and won 74-51. Photo by Cecile Jordan: A senior graphic design major and the winner of the Pink Zone t-shirt design for this year. The crowd looked great sporting the new logo. |
THON '12 Weekend2/20/2012 |
This weekend was the 40th Annual Penn State Dance Marathon, endearingly known as THON. Thousands of students, alumni, families of the Four Diamonds Fund, and other guests gathered in the Bryce Jordan center for the 46 hour event. To say the weekend was emotional is an understatement. Penn State pulled together and raised $10,686,924.83 For The Kids. THON truly is incredible. Thank you to all who gave their support.
