Do you have any pets?

Yes, I have two Portuguese Water dogs, and my parents flew to Calgary, Canada to get them. Their names are Shadow and Midnight and they are eleven and ten years old. I also have a rabbit and two goldfish in my house. In my backyard, I have two goats (names are Maggie and Chiquita). I also have two ponies during the summer time named Pete and Clover.

That's a lot of animals.

Well, I have always wanted a snake ever since my fourth grade teacher kept a pet snake in the classroom.

What's your most memorable Villanova experience?

My most memorable experience has to be the break trip that I went on last spring. I went to Beaumont, Texas and it was just so humbling to spend a week building a house. I have never just spent a week performing service and it just felt so good afterwards. I also met some awesome people on my break trip. I could not have asked for a better group of people to go with to Beaumont.

Campus Cutie: Tim Tiu

Name: Tim Tiu

Year: 2014

Major: Electrical engineering

Hometown: Cheltenham, PA

Do you have any nicknames?

Oh I have a whole list. Tim, Timmy, Timmy Tiu, T-squared, DJ Timmy Tiu, Timlet, T-Chug…that’s a whole other story…. My family calls me TJ because my middle name is John, my high school soccer team called me Flyin Hawaiian…I have a lot of nicknames now that I think about it. “Timmy Tiu” is really popular with the Asian Student Association. Seriously, all the Asians on campus call me Timmy Tiu, all the white people call me Tim. If you ever hear someone call me Timmy Tiu they’re either Asian or they’ve met me through someone who is Asian.

Do you do any extracurriculars?

Intramural indoor/outdoor soccer, volleyball, and I’m part of the Asian Student’s Association.

What are three adjectives you’d use to describe yourself?

I’d say initially I’m definitely shy; it takes me a while to open up to people, but I’m outgoing when I’m with my friends. I’m also funny, and I can laugh at myself.

What did you do for Halloween?

The day of Halloween, I was doing work and listening to music, but during Halloween weekend I went to apartment and dorm parties.

What’s the best Halloween costume you’ve seen this year?

The Ten Stages of a Relationship in 140 Characters or Less

11/3/2012

We all know college dating isn't the easiest thing in the world. And sure, every relationship is different. We've already done a post regarding just how much the internet understands your lifestyle when you're under stress. Interestingly enough, it definitely understands your love life as well. Particularly Twitter.

1. YOU JUST MET:

Say you’re at a party or a bar, because let’s be honest. And you’re looking your best, but you don’t forget the number one rule, which is:

So even though the expression on your face is saying “I am a Grade-A Class Act,” you want to confuse men because you’re a girl and that’s what girls do. So your outfit is really saying:

Meanwhile, he’s over with his friends at the keg, pretty much thinking:

Six Websites That Assure You the Internet Loves You More Than Your Less-Understanding Friend

10/22/2012

We’ve all been there. Crappy week, even the smallest things go wrong, and no one gets it, y’know? You’ll come home after facing a sequence of perfectly life-ruining, first-world-pain moments and try to complain to your roommate who proceeds to put things in “perspective” and tries to make you see how “it isn’t that bad.” (She probably just went on a break trip and broadened her horizons.) Normally, you’re amenable to this. You typically welcome this because you’re not psychotic or a compulsive whiner. But sometimes you just have to wallow and feel sorry for yourself, and today is one of those days.

So your roommate is no help. In fact, it only contributes to the problem because no one understands you.

Your friends are scattered around campus, either in class or in their dorms, and no one feels like moving to see you because it’s cold and raining (obviously). Some of them may even be the problem, so forget that option.

You go to your room and call your best friend from home, who then talks about her own life for an hour because to be fair you haven’t talked to her in weeks (since you’ve been so busy and overwhelmed) and she does have things going on too. But you want to ignore that.

So she’s off the list.

You hang up, completely frustrated, and text/Skype your boyfriend/crush who is trying to be supportive but having a hard time understanding what exactly is so terrible in the first place because, let’s face it, they’re guys. Plus, depending on how long you’ve been dating or “talking,” you don’t want it to seem as though you don’t have a handle on your life; whining is a turn off.

You can’t talk to your mom because she’s busy taking care of your siblings/dog/cat/guinea pig/exotic fish or at work/yoga and you’re painfully reminded that the world is going on without you back in your hometown.

Face Mapping: Fighting Breakouts Naturally!

9/30/2012

It’s beauty week at HC Villanova, and we’ve got some skin secrets for you!

We live in a world where new is synonymous with best. Think about it - we all want the newest technology, clothes, shoes, and even skin care products because we think they’re better than their predecessors, right? While it’s true that improvements are generally made--and always welcomed--in new products, we shouldn’t forget that sometimes it’s better to revert back to your roots. Ancient roots.

I give you: face mapping.

In ancient China, certain medicines were prescribed to people based on the belief that different areas of the face correspond with internal areas of your body. Essentially, your breakouts were indicators of much bigger problems, and solving those problems solved your skin issues too! This belief still holds true today, and various dermatologists and reflexologists swear by it.
So, what are your breakouts telling you?

First, there are different zones: the forehead, temples, between the brows, left cheek, right cheek, lip area, chin and jawline, and neck.

Zone 1: Forehead
Causes: Digestive system, stress, irregular sleep schedule

Cures: Eat less processed junk food - your body might have a hard time breaking down the sugar, make sure you drink plenty of water throughout the day to flush out toxins, and put yourself on a regular sleep schedule!

What’s your ideal girl like?
The number one thing I want her to have is a passion for something. Any passion, I don’t care if it’s stitching. I want her to love something because when people love something, you can see the sparkle in their eye and you can tell what they’re like. I think people can get a lot out of what other people’s interests are.

I also want us to be able to lean on each other emotionally. Not in the needy kind of way obviously, because that’s annoying. But I want to be able to trust her with everything, and I want to be that person for her. It’d be great if she fit in with my friends too – I’m an only child and I don’t have a big family, so my friends have become my family. I want them to be able to like her as much as I do.

Lastly, I think it would be great if she doesn’t mind being silly or out of the ordinary. When a girl can laugh at herself and not care about what other people think about her too much, it’s really attractive.

What are you passionate about?
I’m really into music; I love to play guitar. I don’t want to make it into a career or anything, and I don’t do it to impress anyone but it’s just very therapeutic and good for my overall mental health.

Campus Celeb: Chris Cusick

9/18/2012

We all know how stressful college can be. It seems as though every assignment we’re given eats away at our free time, and that there are never enough hours in the day. No one can understand this feeling more than Villanova Junior Chris Cusick. When he isn’t playing on the rugby team, he’s doing a co-op for Johnson & Johnson, supporting the Janssen Research & Development section. Chris is responsible for managing a $20 million budget, tells scientists whether they can spend money researching different drugs, and is in direct contact with the CFO on a weekly basis. Luckily, he had enough time to sit down and answer a few questions for HC Villanova.

How did you come across the Johnson & Johnson job?
I was interviewing for many internships last semester and nothing was coming up because it’s becoming impossible to get a job. Then my advisor showed me this opportunity, and I applied for it. I figured it would be a good thing to have on my résumé because everyone knows Johnson & Johnson.

Do you want to work at Johnson & Johnson when you graduate?
At first I thought I did, but since I still have one more summer to do another internship, I might do something in investments. But I’m like any other person in college, I don’t know what I want to do ultimately; I’m just going through the motions.

So, I’m going to go out on a limb and say you’re a business major.
Yes I am, I’m doing finance and MIS.
