The Top 10 Greatest Love Songs: The Soundtrack to Your College Romance!

Everyone likes to be in love, right?  Then thank God some really talented people have sung a lot of songs about it over the years to give voice to our inner joy (and sometimes pain).  We all know the highs and lows of college romance—sometimes you’re the first person he texts in the morning, sometimes you’re crying at the bar because he’s making out with your sorority sister.  Here’s HC’s list of the top ten best love songs to guide you through the good times and bad.

’03 Bonnie and Clyde by Beyonce and Jay-Z
Okay, you’re probably all like, “What about ‘Crazy in Love?’” and you know what, that’s a great song too, but this is THE Hov and B love song.  He lets her watch Sex and The City and then they get to go back to talking (probably even about Sex and the City).  If that’s not love, seriously kill me because it’s all I want in life.

All My Loving by The Beatles – Are you in a long distance relationship?  If your BF is abroad, graduated, goes to another university, or (scandal!) is still in high school, this one’s for you.

The Longest Time by Billy Joel – Easily one of the best songs of the 80’s. And perfect for that long-term-going-to-get-married-after-graduation-super-serious couple.  This is a song you want at the wedding!

You Send Me by Sam Cooke – This song actually WAS at my parents’ wedding, so I’m admittedly biased.  But it’s a sweet, simple song to let your crush know you like him.  Post it as your FB status or tweet it . . . he’ll get the hint!

Better Together by Jack Johnson – Okay, so you don’t have to admit it, but you know you love this song.  Even the serious, Edward Cullen-ish, goth guy in your history lecture loves this song—it’s too perfect and applies to any relationship.

You and Me by Penny and the Quarters – Did you guys see Blue Valentine?  Are you aware of a man called Ryan Gosling?  Well, in a pivotal scene in the movie, Gosling tells Michelle Williams this is “their song,” and I think that’s when I started crying (I cried through about 67% of this movie). This song is perfect for the soulful lead guitar player you’re trying to woo.

I Will Follow You into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie – Can’t you just imagine Seth Cohen making this the title track on a mix CD for Summer? It may have blown up way back in 2006, but the tune is timeless.  Great for the nerdy-cute guy in your chem class.

Sea of Love by Phil Phillips – You might recognize the Cat Power cover on theJunosoundtrack—which is gorgeous—but the original 1959 version is just a little sweeter.  Is your BF an old soul?  This one’s for him.

I Want You Back by the Jackson 5 – Aside from being the best pop song of ALL TIME, it perfectly describes the feeling you get when “the one” gets away.  Get them back with this all-too-danceable number.  R.I.P. Little Michael!

Love Story by Taylor Swift – LOL no….
