3 Period Hacks to Share With Your Group Chat

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Though most monthly bleeders can agree that getting your period is our least favorite time of the month, the truth is, it doesn’t have to be that bad. (Even if you have your period on Valentine’s Day.)

Your period, like most things in life – between work, chores, assignments, and more – can be made easier with a few basic changes. But, while most people don’t mind talking openly about those things, some people may feel awkward talking about their period.

Sure, we’ve all complained to our friends about bloating or cravings, and maybe chatted about a mood swing or two, but it’s not as common to get into the nitty-gritty about periods as you’d think.

But lucky for you, we’re spilling our favorite period hacks that you’ll definitely want to incorporate into your monthly cycles and share with your group chat.

#1: Try Adding Some Magnesium To Your Routine

Cramps are the W.O.A.T, so allow us to introduce you to the healing power of magnesium. If you didn’t know already, magnesium helps to alleviate cramps for some people, so you may want to try incorporating some tasty, magnesium-rich treats to your diet the week of your period. Some of our favorites are dark chocolate, avocado, and nuts. So, snack on these foods while laying low, and you may feel your cramps mellow out!

#2: Get a DivaCup

If you’ve used tampons and pads for years, chances are you’ve seen how the cost really adds up month after month. Switching to the DivaCup may be the best period hack, yet!

The DivaCup is a reusable menstrual cup that’s not only great for handling even the heaviest and the worst of periods, but it’s also great for the environment, your wallet, and your underwear drawer.

The DivaCup catches period flow and can be worn for up to 12 hours at a time, which means you don’t have to keep running to the bathroom while walking through campus to change it out. It also reduces the chances of leaking, so while using one, you can stop worrying that you leaked through your pad or tampon, and ruined yet another pair of undies. (#relatable).

And, while the DivaCup is helping make your period better, it’s also making the world better because it’s completely eco-friendly. Whereas tampons and pads result in a large amount of waste, a DivaCup is recyclable and reusable. And, because DivaWash allows you to wash it out and use it multiple times, it costs way less than a box of one-use alternative products.

Do you want a chance to win a free DivaCup and DivaWash for you and your bestie?! Then be sure to enter the Galentine’s Day Giveaway by February 24th at 11:59 pm. Two winners located in the US will be chosen!

#3: A Great Pair of Boyfriend Jeans

Does anyone else feel uncomfortably bloated when they have their period? That’s why we love having a good pair of looser, boyfriend-style jeans on hand. You can throw them on with a cute button-down or a baggy t-shirt and still feel confident! (Pro tip: you can add a blazer or heels to dress it up for a night out, while still feeling comfortable!)

So, this Valentine’s Day, treat yourself or your besties to a shopping spree of boyfriend jeans, a dark chocolate snack, paired with a DivaCup and a DivaWash (which you can get for free by entering the Galentine’s Day Giveaway!) and get ready to take on your period with power.
