Lose the Freshman 15: Visualizing Your Weight Loss

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Sometimes I forget how much weight I’ve lost so far.

I get so consumed by the chaos of my daily life that I find myself going through the motions, not really giving my diet and exercise the full attention that they both deserve. And I still find myself having days where I feel “fat,” but have to jump on the scale regardless.

IMG 3913Today was one of those days. And I was seriously dreading my weekly weigh-in.

I knew that last week was not as successful as I had hoped. I worked out hard up until Friday, but I hit a bump in the road with Dance Marathon. I really ate terribly all Saturday and Sunday during my event, and I was anticipating seeing the results of my food binge show up on the scale in the form of weight gained.

However, I am happy to report that no such thing happened.

In fact, I actually lost another pound this week, which brings my total weight loss to 13 pounds! Now I’m just two pounds away from losing my very own freshman 15, and I’m currently weighing in at 146 pounds. (Which means I just have six more pounds to lose before I reach my goal weight!)

I couldn’t be happier.

IMG 3915And today, as soon as I stepped off the scale, I took a moment to let everything digest. I let myself really process the fact that I’ve lost 13 pounds in just six weeks, which is no laughing matter.

And while I was processing, I found myself thinking about those 13 pounds. What does it mean to lose 13 pounds? How much weight is that really?

Well let me just tell you.

Thirteen pounds is actually 10 cans of soup, 1 giant jar of peanut butter and 1 jar of spaghetti sauce. And in just six weeks, I’ve worked day and night to let those items gradually disappear from my body and form a newer, slimmer me.

IMG 3911I realized today that when you think about losing weight in terms of tangible items, it really helps you visualize just how much weight you’ve actually lost. Because in terms of numbers, 13 is on the smaller size.  But as soon as I got all of those items together and took a good, hard look at them all, I discovered just how much weight I’ve lost so far.

It’s kind of crazy.

But it is also so exciting, and even more than that, so inspiring! Seeing all the weight that I’ve lost in real life form showed me that all of my hard work truly is paying off. And there’s no sense in throwing in the towel now – I’ve got two more pounds to lose, and it’s time to make that happen! So here’s to working hard and losing even more next week!

Sara Kaner was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and first fell in love with journalism as a freshman in high school thanks to her wonderful Intro to Journalism teacher. A family move brought her to Fort Myers, Florida the summer after her freshman year of high school, but she continued to pursue an interest in journalism. She is in her second year at the University of Florida and is pursuing a dual degree in Public Relations and Psychology. She is heavily involved on the UF campus and dedicates most of her time to her various organizations and to her friends. She loves people, magazines, sports and social media, and she hopes to combine all three in her job someday. For now, she aspires to attend Law School and specialize in Media Law. She secretly aspires to be Chelsea Handler, but she's happy being herself for the moment, just as long as she can lose the freshman 15 this semester.
