I used to be fat.
Okay, let me clarify. I wasn’t morbidly obese or anything, but I was definitely overweight. At my heaviest, I weighed nearly 200 pounds.
Sixteen years of chubbiness and major weight insecurity was all it took for me to come to my senses and finally do something about it. As a junior in high school, I set my mind on losing weight, and losing weight I did.
45 pounds, to be exact.

As that glowing smile in the picture above depicts, I was one happy camper, and darn proud of myself as well. I found confidence in myself and my body, and I even got to buy a whole new wardrobe!
It felt great.
What didn’t feel great, however, was coming to college and gaining one-third of that weight back. Gone were the days of my mother’s perfectly crafted, healthy meals waiting for me on the kitchen table when I got home at night. Gone were the hours I spent running and working out every day. And, gone was the motivation and dedication I had once used to lose so much weight.
In just a year away from home, the chaos and unpredictability of college went straight to my belly. I’m ashamed to admit that I gained 15 pounds and that my current weight is 159 pounds.
A quote from my all time favorite movie, Mean Girls, comes to mind when thinking about my current situation.
“Sweatpants are all that fits me right now.”
Okay, maybe I’m over exaggerating a little bit. But, I still get nervous when slipping on a few pairs of my jeans, because I’m worried the zipper won’t zip all the way up and the buttons won’t fully button, thanks to a little new friend of mine, the “Freshman 15.”
But I’m not a freshman anymore, and it’s time to lose those pesky 15 pounds. With the help of the SELF Jumpstart Diet I’m hoping to lose the “freshman 15” in eight short weeks.
Do you think that I can do it?
Only time will tell. But regardless, I’m just excited to finally do something about the weight that I’ve been trying to get rid of for nearly a year.
