Hey collegiettes, I hope you all are starting your Monday off on the right foot. As for me, I have conflicting emotions on how the day is going so far. It’s basically like-
Good news: University of Michigan’s basketball team plays Louisville in Atlanta tonight for the National Championship! SO EXCITED to watch it at the Crisler Center (our non-football stadium) later.
Bad news: I weighed myself today.
Since the Lose the Freshman 15 is an 8 week program, I was planning on losing 2 pounds a week. However, according to the scale, my current weight is…*drumroll*…132lbs. After a week, I lost only 1 pound. Saying I’m disappointed in myself would be an understatement.
Luckily, as I was talking with one of my best friends about how sad this made me feel, I realized I could use this moment as an opportunity to make improvements on how I’m approaching the Drop10 Diet from now on.
For example, instead of sticking to only the treadmill for my light cardio and HIIT workouts, I could try switching things up by utilizing other cardio machines (the elliptical, the bicycle, etc.) to better strengthen other parts of my body. I also could make an effort to stay at the gym for about a half hour longer each session to dedicate to stretching, planks, sit-ups, and weights.
As for food, instead of trying to find close substitutes to the Drop10 Diet recommended meals but then giving up when I can’t find any, I could try to better emphasize SELF’s ‘superfoods’ each trip to the dining hall, which include eggs, yogurt, apples, and others.
Lastly, I overall need to make my body a priority in my life, which in my case starts with getting enough hours of sleep. So many times I’ll forgo hours of much-needed sleep in exchange for getting ahead on homework, but I now realize my body functioning properly is more important. Also, SELF in their Drop10 Diet email to us said that creating a motivating mantra to repeat while at the gym not only gets you mentally focused on the task at hand, but increases your likelihood of reaching your goals by 139%! definitely creating one of those for future use, maybe something more meaningful than just ‘look hot for summer.’
The takeaway message from this is that I’m not giving up hope on my weight loss goal, and neither should any of you. Struggling is natural; if it were easy people wouldn’t call it ‘work.’ Don’t get down on yourself, this journey to lose weight is going to have its ups and downs, but the important thing is to stay committed and not give up. Until next time, bye guys!
P.S- the ZICO latte flavored coconut water is AMAZING! I usually put it in the freezer for a few hours, add 1 packet of Equal 0 calorie sweetener, then pour it over a glass of ice and viola! instant healthy substitute for iced coffee. Check them out at www.Zico.com
