Lose the Freshman 15: Looking Forward to a Healthier Future

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

When I first started this program, I was only looking to do one thing: lose weight. And I did.

In eight weeks, I lost 15 pounds. And during the past two weeks, I have successfully maintained that weight loss.

After my final weigh in today, I am currently residing at 144 pounds, and I couldn’t be happier.

8c71d3b8I’m happy because I have gone through a complete transformation these past ten weeks, and anyone who sees me on a daily basis can attest to this. I have lost weight, I have gained confidence in myself and I have finally found happiness with myself and my body.

But above all of that, I have completely adjusted my lifestyle for the better.

I have made a conscious effort to: monitor my diet, portion the amount of food and the type of food that I eat, and get some form of physical activity nearly every day of the week.

And I’m happy to announce that the Jumpstart Diet isn’t something that I’m ditching after today. On the contrary, it is a way of life that I have adapted to, and I plan to keep on living it for the rest of my life.

This program has showed me that eating healthy and exercising daily is not something that you can do for a month or two at a time and then give up on. Rather, eating right and working out consistently are two very important keys to a happy, healthy lifestyle, and that’s exactly what I plan on doing from here on out.

30037012I realize that I’ll never be stick thin, and I’m quite all right with that.

But just because I’m not a size zero doesn’t mean that I’m not beautiful, nor that I should feel any less satisfied with myself. And thanks to the Jumpstart Diet, I’m discovering that the key to finding happiness with yourself and your body is not being stick thin or squeezing yourself into a size zero.

Rather, the key is finding the right weight and the perfect size for you. And above all, it is being confident in yourself and knowing that you’re perfect just the way that you are.

While I am very happy with myself and confident in my new body, I am choosing to continue on my weight loss journey.

I’m so happy about the 15 pounds that I’ve lost, but I’m not stopping there. I have a long summer ahead of me and some great summer goals to see me through. I want to continue doing what I’m doing, and losing even more weight, because even though I’ll never be stick thin, that doesn’t mean I have to be overweight either.

And you haven’t seen the end of me here.

I promise to keep you all updated on my future weight loss. And I hope that you’ll decide to join me on your own weight loss journey, because it’s really never too late to start living a happier, healthier life!

I just wanted to say a personal thanks to all of the wonderful sponsors of “Lose the Freshman 15: Happy, Healthy Weight Loss” – Sargento, Truvia, Honest Tea, New Balance, Dormzy, Popchips, SELF magazine and Her Campus. Without any of you, none of this would be possible, and I owe all of my success to your kind contributions!

Additionally, I wanted to thank all of my faithful readers, friends and family. You all are the reason that I have made it through this program, and I appreciate your continual support.

Lastly, I just wanted to remind you all that I’m not going anywhere. I’m just an email (sarakaner@hercampus.com) or a tweet away, if you’d ever like to talk about diet or exercise. I’d love to hear from you and hear how your weight loss journey is going!

Sara Kaner was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and first fell in love with journalism as a freshman in high school thanks to her wonderful Intro to Journalism teacher. A family move brought her to Fort Myers, Florida the summer after her freshman year of high school, but she continued to pursue an interest in journalism. She is in her second year at the University of Florida and is pursuing a dual degree in Public Relations and Psychology. She is heavily involved on the UF campus and dedicates most of her time to her various organizations and to her friends. She loves people, magazines, sports and social media, and she hopes to combine all three in her job someday. For now, she aspires to attend Law School and specialize in Media Law. She secretly aspires to be Chelsea Handler, but she's happy being herself for the moment, just as long as she can lose the freshman 15 this semester.
