Hey collegiettes™!
Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but all too often throughout the semester, coffee is a collegiette’s™ best friend. We’ve all had that one night staying up late trying to successfully cram for an exam or finally start that paper on a book you haven’t finished. It can be overwhelming, especially with your heavy eyes, so what’s a girl to do?
Before you make your trip to your favorite coffee shop, consider the calories hiding in your favorite brew:
- Au Bon Pain – 20 oz. Caramel Macchiato (540 cal.)
- Caribou Coffee – 20 oz. Turtle Mocha (800 cal.)
- Dunkin Donuts – 32 oz. Coffee Coolata (800 cal.)
- McDonald’s – 24 oz. Black Forest Ice Blend (740 cal.)
- Seattle’s Best – 24 oz. Chocolate Coffee Crunch Javakula (760 cal.)
-
Starbucks – 20 oz. White Chocolate Mocha (620 cal.)

Considering that these drinks alone are more than any meal option from the Jump Start Diet, this is a definitely fail in calorie intake. Winning? I think not. So how can we get our caffeine fix and stick to a healthy diet? Well, SELF suggests a 12 oz. nonfat latte from Starbucks, and we all know that black coffee is practically zero calories, before mixing in any of your favorite extras… but I’m looking for something different. Lucky for me, Truvia™ had a yummy recipe waiting for me to try out:
Iced Coffee Recipe (10 cal.)
8 oz. cold water
2 tsp. instant coffee
1/2 cup skim milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tsp Truvia™ natural sweetener
2 ½ cups ice
Mix, blend and serve! Top it off with a dollop of whipped cream, chocolate syrup, cocoa powder, or add 2 scoops of vanilla ice cream (try: Purely Decadent Vanilla Bean or Chocolate coconut milk ice cream).
