Lose the Freshman 15: Feeling Comfortable in Your Underwear, and Running in it Too!

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

In addition to wanting to be skinny, I’ve also always wanted to look good and feel comfortable in my underwear.

There’s just something I’ve always admired about girls that can walk around in nothing but their underwear, hold their head high and feel no shame.

I want to be one of those girls.

And as of today, I finally have the motivation to make that happen. I just found out that the University of Florida is holding its 12th annual Undie Run on April 15. The Great Underwear Dash, or the Undie Run, is a long-standing tradition at UF, and occurs every semester, giving crazy college kids the opportunity to abandon their shirts and pants for an evening of clean, clothing-free fun.

Exactly two weeks from today, at precisely 11:59 p.m., I will be stripping down to my mere undergarments and running wild around campus.

I plan on looking good while I do it, and feeling good about myself while I do it.

I remember first hearing about it as an incoming freshman and thinking to myself that it was something that I could never do, because I wouldn’t be comfortable wearing only my underwear in front of my friends and even complete strangers.

And last year I watched everyone gather in the middle of campus and run around in his or her underwear, proud to be restriction-free and roaming the campus in a clothes-less mass. It was a sight to see, and one that I was envious of. I wanted to take part in it, but I was just too insecure.

But that’s different now.

Now that I’m on my journey towards losing my personal “freshman 15,” I am gaining more confidence in myself each and every day that passes. I wake up in the morning and smile at the sight that I see in the mirror, and I’m ready to share that sight with the rest of the world.

I’ve still got a long way before I’ll be 100% happy with my body, but I’m so excited to have the confidence to finally do something that I’ve always wanted to do. And with two weeks to go before the big day, I’ve still got some time to get some more abs workouts in and get my stomach looking thinner and flatter than ever before.

I’m excited to strip down in public for the first time – I just hope that the Undie Run is as fun as I’m anticipating it to be!

Sara Kaner was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and first fell in love with journalism as a freshman in high school thanks to her wonderful Intro to Journalism teacher. A family move brought her to Fort Myers, Florida the summer after her freshman year of high school, but she continued to pursue an interest in journalism. She is in her second year at the University of Florida and is pursuing a dual degree in Public Relations and Psychology. She is heavily involved on the UF campus and dedicates most of her time to her various organizations and to her friends. She loves people, magazines, sports and social media, and she hopes to combine all three in her job someday. For now, she aspires to attend Law School and specialize in Media Law. She secretly aspires to be Chelsea Handler, but she's happy being herself for the moment, just as long as she can lose the freshman 15 this semester.
