Lose the Freshman 15: Broad Street Inspiration

Hi Ladies!

For those of you that don’t know, today was a HUGE day in terms of fitness here in Philadelphia. Why? Because it was the 34th annual Broad Street Run!

Living just off of Broad Street, on Temple’s campus it was hard for me not to get caught up in the 10 mile race that brings the community together, and while I wasn’t quite ready to take the 10-mile plunge just yet, I couldn’t help but to feel motivated with all this Broad Street Run talk in the air.

A little after the crack of dawn (and by “little” I mean 11am-I am a college student after all), My boyfriend, Seth, and I laced up our favorite New Balance sneaks and headed over to the gym to create our own Broad Street-inspired workout.

We started out with some good old-fashioned competition to see who could run a mile fast. He, of course, kicked my butt with his mile clocking in at just under seven minutes. From there we switched over to some strength training with Self’s Drop 10 routine, which Seth was totally embarrassed about (“It’s from a girls fitness magazine?”), but ended up really loving the moves in the end.

We ended our workout with a quick thirty-minute modified version of Self’s HIIT elliptical routine. Afterwards, we treated ourselves to some makeshift “healthy” chocolate smoothies, using Zico’s chocolate coconut water and some whey protein, YUM.

Finally it was time to get back to studying, but with finals week coming to a close and summer just around the corner, I’m feeling more motivated than ever. How are you guys prepping for bikini season? Let me know in the comments and make sure to sign up for the second round of Lose the Freshman 15’s Dietbet here!
