Why He’s a Gold Medal Hottie: Born in Peru, of Italian descent, and living in Princeton, NJ, Lanzone had to gain American citizenship if he wanted to continue to compete professionally in 2006. “It takes about three-and-a-half hours to get to D.C. from Princeton,” says the rower. “I got there in two hours and forty-five minutes.” He drove to D.C., had his interview, passed the test with flying colors (a perfect score, to be exact), and was sworn in the next day, all within two days of his competition in Eton, Great Britain. If that didn’t make it clear that Lanzone has serious determination and passion for his sport, he’s still in the game, even at an age that many players start thinking about settling down and having a family. The 2010 Rowing World Cup silver medalist and 2008 Olympian also models for Ralph Lauren (shocker), sporting their 2008 and 2012 Olympic collections.
