Your Unofficial Style Guide to Taking On The NYC Music Festival Scene

Leave the flower crowns for Coachella — New Yorkers know how to put a cool-girl spin on their festival outfits. From Panorama to Governor’s Ball, tens of thousands of people flock to New York City every summer for an East Coast spin on the California classic Coachella and to hear some of their favorite artists.

While the music part is a lot of fun, we’d be lying if we said our favorite part wasn’t the outfits. However, don’t expect to see your typical flower crowns and boho style that Coachella is famous for. Attendees of NYC music festivals put their own spin on festival fashion — and we’re loving it! Keep reading to see some of my favorite festival trends straight from Governor’s Island and Randall’s Island Park:

Overalls

We saw tons of girls clad in all different styles of overalls last festival season, and we’re sure this year won’t be any different! This overall dress from Abercrombie ($78) would look so good paired over a pretty crop top or bandeau.

Western accessories

Just because we’re on the East Coast doesn’t mean we can’t add a Western flair to our festival looks! From belts to boots, it’s so easy to incorporate a subtle nod to the West in any outfit. These boots from Free People ($70) will take you through festival season and beyond.

Bare shoulders

You can never go wrong with an off-the-shoulder top in summer. In recent years they have come in endless colors and styles, so you’re sure to find one you’ll love. This eyelet crop top from Revolve ($38) can be paired with just about anything from a flowy maxi skirt to denim cutoffs.

Fanny packs

Fanny packs are a music festival staple – and for good reason! They’re a hands-free way to have all of your essentials on you at all times, so you can enjoy your concerts without carrying around a clunky handbag. This season, fanny packs are being given a fresh upgrade in metallic shades, like this one from Pretty Little Thing ($18). If you’re not into the fanny pack look, swap it for a statement crossbody.

Mirrored sunglasses

Mirrored sunnies are one of my favorite summer accessories – and I own way more of them than I’m willing to admit. This rose gold pair from Nordstrom ($16) will defend your eyes from the sun and look good doing it!

Layered chokers

We’ve seen chokers worn religiously for the past few years. This year, we’re loving the dainty layered chokers we’ve seen on the street. This one from Lulu’s ($19) has a boho-glam feel that will be the finishing touch on your perfect festival look.

Whether you’re attending a music festival or not, you can still have fun with fashion and pull inspo from the trending styles to your summer wardrobe this year — I know I will
