What’s in/ What’s Out Shoe Edition: What to Buy, What to Keep and What to Toss

Here in the northeast, the last glimmer of snow is melting away (hopefully!) and it’s finally  time to ditch those riding boots and whip out your sandals! The Spring 2011 runways were a walking homage to the seventies, and footwear was no exception. From bold details to brand-new silhouettes, check out which styles to invest in, what shapes to hold on to, and which pairs you can part ways with…

  • Flat-tops? Elevator wedges? Flatforms?

Each publication may give this style a different moniker, but everyone agrees that this is the hottest style du jour. If you’re only going to invest in one pair of shoes this season, these are the ones to buy.

  • Metallic Details

Nothing gets more 70’s disco-chic than metallic. These shoes will add an instant touch of fun and glamour to any outfit, without being over-the-top.

  • Flat is back

Comfort meets fashion in these flat-soled sandals. Pair them with a maxi dress and wide-brimmed hat to complete the 70’s bohemian feel.

  • Don’t Ditch Your…Cage Booties

Whether you love to hate them or hate to love them, cage booties are still very in this season. For an updated version, pick up a pair with snakeskin or metallic details.

Alexander Wang, Alexandre Birman, Alexander McQueen

  • Toss Your…Gladiator Shoes

This season, all of the flat sandals are about casual bohemian elegance and these mid-calf gladiators are simply too fussy. If you loved the edgy vibe of these shoes, try wearing a cage bootie silohuette, or wear sandles made in similar materials but in a much simpler silohuette.
