Top 5 Resort 2013 Collections (So Far)

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think about summer fashion? Humidity-infused hair? Sweat embellished clothes? In short, you probably think of a season filled with fashion faux pas- blame it on the heat. Believe it or not, it doesn’t have to be that way! Case in point: Resort 2013. Just when you think you’re bound to bikini tops and cut offs for the next few months, the latest collections show us exactly how to be chic in the summer heat. Between that stellar internship and flirting with that cutie from your go-to coffee shop, how are you supposed to keep up with every runway report? As always, I’m here to break it down for you. This time, I’m sharing my five favorite Resort 2013 shows.

Jason Wu

I can’t help but swoon over every single thing Jason Wu creates. His polished and contemporary aesthetic is everything. Too far? Never. Wu’s clothes are always versatile enough to foster your true sense of style, but edgy enough to exude “effortless chic.” Obviously, this collection is no exception. What’s really great about this collection is that you can mix and match different looks to create something special. Like that black retro dress with the blue leather jacket? So cool!

Proenza Schouler

This just in: I’m having a summer romance with Proenza Schouler. But seriously, how could you not fall in love with the tailored silhouettes, pops of bold color, and fantastic fabrics? Maybe you don’t picture yourself wearing leather shirts to your vacation on the French Rivera (I wish), but that’s exactly why this collection is so major- it’s redefining Resort. It’s as if this CFDA-winning duo is trying to teach us a valuable lesson- Resort isn’t all about caftans and glamorous straw hats. Instead, it’s time to break away from the stereotype and try something edgier. Inspirational or what?

Peter Pilotto

Contrary to Proenza Schouler’s collection, Pilotto’s is quintessential Resort. To have a successful summer wardrobe, you do need some typical and atypical Resort-esque apparel. Between the borderline-superfluous use of color and punchy patterns, this collection is meant to be worn on some exotic beach. What I love about this collection is the variety. From flirty dresses to retro-chic playsuits, every color-obsessed fashionista can lust over these designs.

Oscar de la Renta

Who doesn’t love Oscar de la Renta? Though his designs are never geared toward the typical “collegiette,” I’m obsessed with his latest take on Resort. Love it or hate it, gingham is making a come-back (as I blog in a gingham blouse). Instead of interpreting this trend like everyone else does, de la Renta makes this pattern sophisticated with full skirts and luxe hues. Also, don’t the frilly dresses make you want to host a tea party? Just me. Okay…

Temperley London

Can we just stop for a second and soak in how glamourous Temperley London’s latest collection is? The whole production has this effortless 70’s vibe, which I’m obsessed with. With a range of crucial hues- dark urban, refreshing white, feminine neutrals, and the ever-so-frequent bursts of brightness– this collection provides us style groupies with unique and wearable clothes. Also, I’m obsessed with maxis during the summer- they’re the perfect way to be edgy and feminine. So whoever wants to get me that white maxi skirt for my birthday, I’d really appreciate it.

What are some of your favorite Resort collections? I’m dying to know!
Until next time, fashionistas!
