Thumbs Up or Down on These Fingers?

I recently noticed in a few magazines that some celebrities were trying out a new trend of painting one nail of theirs differently on their fingers. Often they were painting their index finger the different color โ€” but I decided to test it out setting my pinky nail apart from the crowd.

I painted 4 of my nails using OPI’s new Plants a Lot polish from their Spring 2011 BRIGHTS collection inspired by Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. I obviously had to try out this new trend using my favorite color for my nails โ€” purple!

Planks a Lot is a super pretty pale purple with this gorgeous creamy finish to it. To offset the pale, I painted my pinky nails with this dark, shiny puple from Butter.ย

I was sort of nervous about how it would come out โ€” but I am loving it!

I think the key with this is to keep your nails looking really ‘polished’ in that they should be neat with no chips. That way no one who doesn’t really know beauty trends will mistake your one different nail as a hasty attempt to fix one overly chipped/messed up nail. I also wouldn’t mix colors from vastly different color families or do two similiar styles (glitter with glitter, pastel with pastel, etc.)

Would I do one nail different every time I painted my nails? Noooo. But do I think it’s fun and a great way to jazz up a pale manicure? Yes! Definitely!

What do you think of this trend? Have you tried it? Would you? If so, with which colors? Let me know below!
