Spring break is just around the corner – for some that might mean beaches, tans & cocktails and for others that might mean time with family and friends in the comfort of your own home. But, no matter where you happen to be, these makeup saviors should help make your makeup last long, look better, and feel more comfortable!
For the Vacationer:
The Issue: Runny mascara on the beach
The Fix: The first and most obvious fix would be to make sure you are wearing waterproof mascara (try Maybelline’s Lash Discovery Mini Brush Mascara or Benefit’s They’re Real! Mascara). Secondly, if you still want your lashes to look thick and voluminous, find a waterproof liquid eyeliner (try E.L.F’s Waterproof Eyeliner Pen), line your upper lash line and slightly wing it out. This will make your lashes look more voluminous without the need for tons and tons of mascara!
The Issue: Oily skin under the sun
The Fix: Before you make your way down to the beach, after you have put you sunscreen on all over your face, apply a powder (Try Urban Decay De-Slick Mattifying Powder) to your T-Zone. Make sure you buff it in with a dense face brush, and then bring it along with you with a powder pad so that you can blot away oiliness and touch up throughout the day. (Just make sure you’re not caking too much on – you want to let your skin breath and you don’t want to look like you’re wearing a makeup-mask!)
The Issue: Sun-burned lips
The Fix: First off, always remember to put sunscreen on your lips – it can be in chapstick form or even the normal lotion you use on the rest of your face. But, if it’s already too late and your lips are burnt, here are a couple tips for helping them heal quickly. For one, apply aloe as soon as you can. Aloe actually helps with the healing process and can speed up your lips’ recovery time! Secondly, keep them moisturized. This means continuously applying Vaseline or Aquaphor on your lips and, as always, drink a lot of water. Lastly, each time you’re going out in the sun, keep putting SPF on your lips (the last thing you need is your sunburned lips getting more burnt!)

For the Staycationer:
The Issue: Dry, flakey skin that makes your makeup look uneven
The Fix: Exfoliate and moisturize. Using either a gentle washcloth or face brush, exfoliate your skin so that all the flakey bits can be removed – Don’t do this more than twice a week or your skin will begin to get very sensitive and irritated! After you have exfoliated your skin, apply a light daily moisturizer. Then, about twice a week, use a thicker deep moisturizing cream and lather it onto your skin after your shower so that there is a white layer over your face. Let this soak in for about 30 minutes to an hour and then remove it with a damp washcloth. Your skin should be soft and smooth in no time!
The Issue: Redness around your nose and cheeks
The Fix: Often times this redness can come from blowing your nose a lot, or having sensitive skin. Try to get your hands on a green-toned primer and apply it to your skin after your moisturizer, but before you put on any foundation or concealer (try Clinique’s Redness Solutions Daily Protective Base). The green color will cancel out the redness, leaving your skin with a natural, neutral tone. After you have done that, you can spot treat the red areas with a green-toned concealer – just make sure you apply your normal foundation or concealer on top of that so you don’t look like you’ve gotten weird case of the chicken pox!
The Issue: Static-y and Frizzy hair
The Fix: The cold tends to make hair more static-y and more frizzy. To counter the cold, try using an oil-based product after you get out of the shower (try Organix Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum). An oil-based product that you apply to the ends of your hair can help weigh it down a little bit so some of those little buggers can’t decide to fly away. It can also help to spray a little hair spray in your hands and run your hands through your hair to deter the frizzies.
