This Blackhead Removal Method Is Going Viral, But It’s Probably Terrible for Your Skin

Blackheads are disgusting (think: dirt clogging your skin), but thankfully, there are multiple ways to remove them. If you’re anything like me, you’ve spent hours on YouTube looking for the best way to get rid of them. You have probably tried four different techniques before finding one that works for you… or not. If you fall into the latter category, beauty junkies from YouTube and Reddit have a new solution for you. They swear by a new blackhead removal technique called “Skin Gritting.” It is downright disturbing to look at, but I. Can’t. Stop.

So how does it works? First, you cleanse your face with an oil cleanser, then apply a clay mask. After rinsing that off, you use more oil cleanser and massage it into the skin. After this, somehow, magically, the impurities surface, visible to the naked eye. All that’s left to do then is to tweeze out the blackheads. It’s fascinating and, like, really gross.

According to Refinery29, this works because the clay will unclog your pores, while, according to Teen Vogue, the oil cleanser will help remove dirt. So this method may be legit, but it’s also vaguely dangerous, especially if you have very sensitive skin. It could leave your skin irritated, and you could scrape off the outer layer of it in the process. Eek. That said, several YouTubers who have tried this method didn’t really get any results, aside from making their skin very red from the massaging. So not only does this method probably not work, or at least not for everyone, but it can also damage your pretty face? Looks like you really shouldn’t try this at home.
