New York fashion week was seventies central. Wide-legged trousers and flouncy blouses ebbed and flowed in brilliant hues, like kelly green and eggplant. In theatrical terms, black was just one star in an ensemble cast of equally powerful contenders. But New York’s prim, proper and infinitely moodier sister, Paris, went for a starker color contrast.Models sashayed down the Fall 2011 Paris runways outfitted in tough leather blazers offset by crisp white trousers, and long, black, sultry sheaths overlaid with white tailored coats. And while I loved NYFW’s infatuation with color, the Paris shows certainly prove that black and white is trés, trés, chic.
A menswear-inspired silhouette in these fresh, yet sophisticated hues create a strong and elegant look.

The black and white contrast in lady-like staples like a tailored suit give these classic ensembles a modern twist.

While the LBD might be a staple item, this black-white combo is certainly fresher. The black trimming gives this fresh and flirty frock a sophisticated touch.
