New York Fashion Week 2013 Recap

New York Fashion Week 2013 saw a lot of things: designers presenting bold and beautiful clothing lines, models rocking the looks down the runway, and *a lot* of snow, thanks to the blizzard Nemo that rolled through over the weekend.

But luckily for fashion lovers from around the world, the snow didn’t put too much of a damper on the exhilarating energy of the week. Although some shows were delayed, including the final Marc Jacobs show, the models, stylists and designers persisted the whole week to get their looks out on the runways. And we saw some great new trends! There were lots of cutouts, plaid, and baggy, comfy styles, in a mix of wearable outfits and also wardrobe choices that I personally would like to just keep on the runway. There was no shortage of excitement in the city with all the fashionistas running, walking, and strutting around, but unfortunately it had to come to an end. However, fortunately now we can take a look back on the fashions from the past week. And of course…be on the lookout for the trends from London Fashion Week that is going on right now!

Rebecca Minkoff Collection

A bold choice of mixing patterns and colors. Although sometimes too much commotion with so many different lines and angles can be overwhelming, I think that this displayed a perfect amount of chic chaos.

Dark and subtle on top, with a giant pop of color on bottom! This is style is here to get down to business, but definitely ready to party.

Another big trend that we saw throughout the week includes puffy shoulders. Different from your mom’s shoulder pads from the ‘80s, this style gives a strong, filled out look that enhances a petite figure and draws attention in a powerful, but feminine way.

BCBG Max Azaria

Dark and sultry with lots of femininity. A great combination that works well for this dress, making it stand out but not in a flashy way, and the detailed pattern is gorgeous!

Dresses, pants and tops might get most of the attention during fashion shows, but we can’t forget the shoes! I love these cutout heels, which match the trend we saw all across the runways with cutouts in clothing.

A little glipse of everything from this show, from the killer stilletos, the lush fur coats, the slouchy beanie caps, to the powerful patterns.

Oscar De La Renta

Here we can see even more pattern combinations! This look has a much more feminine flair with a flowery look mixed with a unique touch of geometric shapes. The shoes also complete the look with the swirly straps!

Mixing the fur and the big shoulders, this look sums up man trends from Fashion Week 2013. The color scheme also caught my attention, between the skirt and the gloves meshing with the shade of the vest.

I can’t get enough of this evening gown, with the sexy line up the center of the dress lined by the silver embroidery contrasting against the black. It’s not too revealing, with the coverage being pretty modest and the belt cinching the middle, but it’s very alluring.

Ralph Rucci

Blocked off by the sheer fabric, this look shows a different way to use the cutout trend with the symmetrical rectangles.

A violet color scheme ran this show, and this look is a perfect example. Adding the full-sized coat completes the outfit, making the shiny dress give off a more powerful appearance.

This cozy winter look has a basic color palate but is overall eye-catching. The use of the oversized belt ties everything in together to complete the striking style.
