The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced the 2024 Met Gala theme is Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion, and the Institute’s exhibition this year will feature almost 250 items from the Institute’s permanent collection of rare items spanning over four centuries. The exhibition will use research and technology to give new life to the museum’s artifacts, which will be “visually united by iconography related to nature,” according to The Met.

When the 2024 Met Gala theme was announced, all that was processing through my head was Disney princesses. When you hear Sleeping Beauties, a girl wearing a long pink gown and tiara comes to mind. Unfortunately, this isn’t entirely what the theme entails.
“Using the natural world as a uniting visual metaphor for the transience of fashion, the show will explore cyclical themes of rebirth and renewal, breathing new life into these storied objects through creative and immersive activations designed to convey the scents, sounds, textures, and motions of garments that can no longer directly interact with the body,” the Metropolitan Museum of Art said in a press release.
At each Met Gala, there is an exhibition guests walk through honoring the theme of the event where designers display their pieces. The upcoming Met Gala exhibit will feature 17th-century English Elizabethan pieces, Christian Dior gowns, and pieces from 21st Century designers like Stella McCartney, Conner Ives. The exhibition will honor and display pieces spanning back 400 years. That’s reawakening the fashion realm on a different level, very on-20theme.

On Feb. 15, it was announced that the 2024 Met Gala hosts would include Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Jennifer Lopez, and Zendaya. I definitely didn’t have Hemsworth on my bingo card this year, but this lineup of co-chairs is stacked!
