If you’re a handbag fanatic like me, then this major luxury brand news may be all over your social media feed. The latest information all over my FYP: Louis Vuitton is apparently discontinuing the sale of their classic Neverfull tote bags online and in stores. Her Campus reached out to Louis Vuitton parent company LVMH for comment but didn’t hear back by the time of publication.
According to a TikTok posted on Sunday, May 21 by luxury handbag influencer Ford Chapman, this includes the Classic Monogram, Damier Ebene, and Damier Azur versions of the Neverfull tote, and the classic colors in the Empriente Leather. However, according to Chapman, limited edition Neverfulls will still be readily available for purchase.
While Louis Vuitton has not released any official news on the Neverfull, changes are already happening on their website. When browsing one of the above bags, there is a “Notify Me” button where the “Place In Cart” button used to be. According to influencer @foxylv on Instagram, in order to get your hands on one of these totes, you will be added to a waitlist, but it is unclear how long this waiting process will take. The bags will also still reportedly be available in-store for display purposes only.
This recent news has been causing some controversy on Tik Tok, as the Neverfull is one of the most debated luxury handbags. Some are praising LV’s decision while others are mourning the loss of this staple. In her TikTok about the news, Who What Wear fashion editor Sierra Mayhew said, “It looks like the bag has been called cheugy just a few too many times on this app, and Louis Vuitton has definitely taken notice.”
No matter which side of this debate you’re on, here are some Neverfull dupes to satisfy your needs.
St. Anne Monogram Tote (Barrington Gifts, $200)
Checkered Handbag (PURPLIOLE, $34)
FEI Tote Bag (JW PEI, $139)
Ever-Ready Zip Tote (TORY BURCH, $298)
Jacquard Tote Bag (Mango, $100)
Megan Large Soft Tote (Rebecca Minkoff, $278)
Landyn Tote (Nine West, $55)
If none of these dupes satisfy your need for the Neverfull, don’t sleep on resale sites like The Real Real, Vestiaire Collective, or Poshmark. With Louis Vuitton making their Neverfulls harder to get, though, hop on these secondhand bags quickly before prices skyrocket.
