London Fashion Week: How to Wear Britain’s Hottest Styles

It may be time for the British to do away with their penchant for basic black and muted trench coats. Bold colors and intricate prints ruled the runway at London Fashion Week, causing other style capitals to sit up and take notice.

Some of London’s most notorious designers, including Jonathan Saunders and Burberry Prorsum, showcased African prints and vivid reds and yellows. Mary Katrantzou, an Athens-based designer, whose collections have recently exploded onto the catwalk, featured distinctive patterns inspired by atypical items like Faberge eggs and Chinese vases.

While embellished bubble skirts and floating train additions to mini dresses dominated Katrantzou’s collection, other designers opted to put a bright, new spin on old classics.

Roksanda Ilincic highlighted loose, 50s-inspired styles in dazzling jade, magenta and mustard gold tones. She paired sumptuous satins and silks with beanie hats to relax the look.

So, what can we take away from London Fashion Week, if not a metallic Giles Deacon dress?

While collegiettes™ may not be rushing out to purchase pieces from the latest Balenciaga collection, we can infuse our everyday wardrobes with these London fashions.

Do not be afraid of color! Trade in your drab browns, blacks and nudes for startling orange, pink or yellow hues. Pair a bright piece with something neutral and you’ll stand out without having to completely revamp your closet.

Experiment a little with dressing down some elegant outfits by pairing them with a woolen hat or a textured sweater for a trendier look.
