If you’re a college student, Halloween costumes can seem to be the last priority to focus on and put on the back burner while you juggle school, work, and life in general. So, if you realize right before Halloween weekend that you are empty-handed with a costume, stop rummaging through your closet for unoriginal ideas and create the most iconic (and convenient) costume for 2022: Elvis and Priscilla Presley. This past summer, the highly-anticipated biopic Elvis, directed by Baz Luhrmann and starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks, rocked box offices nationwide.

Style-wise, Elvis never strayed from making bold statements with his style, coordinating with sleek suits, lots of leather, and flashy studded stage wear (with a hint of black eyeliner). Even though Elvis seemed to be the star of the show, his then-wife Priscilla had a fashion sense that stole the hearts of Elvis’s fan base. Priscilla rocked major trends of the ‘60s, such as thick, bold eyeliner, hair teased up to the sky, and acrylic nails, creating the blueprint for rock ‘n’ roll fashion for women. Generations of fans have adored the Presleys’ fashion sense, but the couple’s notoriety has come back full circle after the premiere of Elvis. So, what better way to pay tribute to the Presleys’ style than rock an iconic Elvis or Priscilla costume this Halloween?

Instead of buying a replica of Elvis’ bedazzled jumpsuits, a suit of any color can mimic the expensive looks the rock icon wore. (Pro tip: Check out your local thrift store to find a suit to save some money!) To make the suit ensemble complete, add some big 1970s sunglasses to match the era you’re going for. Iconic!

Young Priscilla was known for her eccentric 1960s mod styles that Gen Z has become obsessed with. To achieve Priscilla’s look, start with a mini dress in any bright and bold color. These small, chic dresses are classic and keep a posh look to the costume. Pair your dress with white (or any) boots and headband to give it that ‘60s vibe. Add a thick eyeliner wing, and lastly and most importantly, the look isn’t complete until your hair is teased to the sky!

Elvis: Tropical Vibes

If you want a more laid-back Elvis look, wear a tropical shirt (like Presley’s look in the 1961 film Blue Hawaii) and call it a day! Make sure to also gel up your hair and give it some volume.

If you want to resemble the ‘70s Priscilla era, wear a fun, sparkly jumpsuit with any black or white boots you own. To finish off the costume, style your hair with bouncy waves or curls. Totally groovy, baby!

Another quick Elvis-inspired costume could be as simple as black slacks with a polo or buttoned shirt. Bonus points if you have a leather jacket to match (which can also be found at a thrift store near you!).
