I Finally Found My Perfect Underwear & I’m Never Going Back

I just love underwear that rolls, bunches and rides up… said no one, like, ever. Luckily, there’s an underwear company out there that really gets it. Founded in 2008 by Tom Patterson and Erin Fujimoto, Tommy John, has been creating solutions for men’s underwear for the past 10 years, and has just released their first-ever women’s underwear collection.

Plagued with the fear of VPL (visible panty lines) and no stranger to the discomfort of poorly designed underwear, I knew I had to try some of these babies out for myself. I received a few pairs to wear during the launch, and spoiler alert: I’m never going back.

To be quite frank, I’ve wasted a ton of time and money on some nonsense underwear that just looked awful underneath my clothes (and felt even worse). So, it was about time to get no-nonsense about it. Voting favorably in the “leggings are pants” debate and proudly living my best life in them about 90 percent of the time (athleisure ~ftw~), I truly value a pair of underwear that not only looks good under my clothes, but feels even better.

Featured in four different styles (brief, boyshort, cheeky and thong) and two unique fabric collections (Air and Second Skin), I was highly intrigued by all Tommy John has to offer with these magic undies, With a no VPL guarantee and feather-light “commando” feeling of the Air collection (and non-pilling fabrics from both).

Can a pair of underwear really do all that? Short answer? Yes.

I’ll explain. My days are pretty packed, so going from class to athletics to meetings and more, I always want my underwear to be the last thing on my mind (as anyone would). On one particularly busy morning, I threw on a pair of Tommy John’s Second Skin Thong ($20) and instantly fell in love.

Stepping out a little more confidently that day, I breezed through without making a single adjustment. Not one! No running to the bathroom or awkwardly shimmying down the hallway in between class to get everything back in place. Not to mention, they’re soft AF, so I wasn’t dying to get out of them by the end of the day. Not only did I not have to deal with them riding up, but they also didn’t dig in and leave marks on my hips.

The next day I tried out the Air Thong ($26), knowing that an eight-mile run awaited me at practice that afternoon. Boasting anti-microbial fabric that doesn’t roll or bunch (so much so that feels like it’s not even there), I figured it would be the perfect pair of underwear to be active in.

Honestly, I was a little thrown off at first by how much it felt like I wasn’t wearing anything! By the end of my run, I was happy to be wearing that particular thong and not feel disgusting ~down there~ while sitting around to stretch and foam roll. The underwear feels super smooth and light to the touch, and I really appreciate its moisture-wicking fabric.

Throughout this game-changing experience, I thought about why women generally subject themselves to uncomfortable underwear.

It seems as though many underwear solutions offered to women are thought to sacrifice sexiness for comfort, and vice versa. However, Tommy Johns are *super* cute for how comfortable they are, and the different silhouettes, as well as the colors offered, are extremely flattering and pretty. R-E-S-P-E-C-T yourself, ladies. You deserve both!

The company offers a “Best Pair You’ll Ever Wear or It’s Free” guarantee, so you can feel confident choosing the right pair for you. Tommy John, I’m glad we’ve met. I didn’t know I needed these perfect undies in my life, but I truly did. Overcome the uncomfortable and watch their “Little Adjustments” video!
