Despite polka dots being a huge trend on last Fall’s catwalks, they seem to have stuck around for this season as well. If you thought polka dots were a thing of the past, it’s time to warm up to this highly versatile, classic print.

Since the 1950s, women have adored polka dot print. It is firmly entrenched in the world of fashion and, at this point in its fashion life cycle, it has started to break out of its shell. There are many ways to style polka dots, and designers and street style stars have brought them into the limelight.

Two of my favorite ways to style polka dots are with other polka dots of different sizes/shapes, or with solid white or black separates.

Solid separates

This is a classic, can’t-go-wrong styling option. If you want to dip your toe into the polka dot waters while making it look like you know exactly what you’re doing, try this out. Pair your one polka dot item with solid black or white separates and you’ve got a guaranteed stylish outfit. You can even pair it with a colorful purse and fun accessories to step your game up a notch.

Polka dots on polka dots

Pairing one style of polka dots with another is a more daring option, but if done well can look absolutely amazing! This way makes you stand out from the crowd and you’ll no doubt turn a lot of heads.

A few other trendy ways to style polka dots are pairing them with other patterns (like stripes, florals or plaid — don’t be afraid to step out of the box!), wearing polka dot accessories or outerwear, a full polka dot jumpsuit, sheath dress, or jeans, and you can even wear colorful polka dots. They don’t have to just be black and white!

This classic trend will be around for the long haul, so mastering it now will not only help you gain confidence in creating stylish looks, but it will also help you stay on trend for years to come.
