While the weekend is usually the best part of my week, this past Saturday was kind of gloomy. The weather was rainy, windy, and one of those all-around miserable Boston days. Many students fled the city to be with their families, while the rest were left spending their Easter weekend alone to work through a hefty load of final papers, projects, and exam preparations. So in order to brighten everyone’s day, I decided to bake some cookies!
Now usually, baking isn’t much of a sacrifice. If you’ve read my blogs before, you know cookies are one of my favorite treats and even when I’m baking for others, I always set aside a generous portion of cookies to sample (to make sure it’s not poisonous, of course). But Saturday was different. Since it’s still Passover, I am abstaining from eating food that contains flour (and a whole host of other ingredients), and I knew I would have to inhale that delicious cookie aroma, without being able to sample any of it. But I was determined to bring a little Easter cheer to the melancholy day and decided to bake for the greater good.
Â
I sought the help of my friend, and fellow baking aficionado, Nicole, who lives in an apartment building that houses tons of college students. After making 2 batches of cookies (1 chocolate chip and 1 double chocolate chip), we put them on a plate, left them in her lobby, and returned a mere ½ hour later to see that the entire plate was empty! I didn’t realize how much fun it could be to anonymously make someone’s day a little sweeter with such a simple, selfless act.
Â
While I originally intended to cheer up everyone else, I ended up making myself feel better as well. For the rest of the day, I walked around, with a glow of pride, and happiness that made me feel naturally beautiful from the inside out.Â
