Hello, Gorgeous! The Fall Factor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Welcome back, beauties! One of the things I love most about coming back to Amherst in the fall is that with the change of season comes the chance to transform yourself! Something takes over us the first week, and sleep is of no consequence because we want to look H-O-T for on-campus romps. There could be a cute guy just around the corner in Bartlett, or maybe you know that there is just something so come hither about a girl who knows she’s fabulous. To any effect, after that first week, my fervor for fab loses some steam. I’m going to give you just a few quick and fun fall beauty tips that will keep you inspired Monday through Sunday.

1. Hair: Sometimes, the ponytail doesn’t get enough credit. It can be chic, flirty, and sexy all at the same time. One fall trend that I’m loving is the pony-wrap. First, sweep your hair into a high pony tail. You’ve probably done this once or twice before. Now, take a curling iron such as Conair’s Infiniti 1’’ Ceramic Curling Iron (drugstores, $28.99), and wrap 1 inch sections of hair around the Iron. Hold for a five-count and let the curls fall. Finally, to hide that elastic, flip your pony over and grab a 1 inch section of hair from the lowest center point of your pony and wrap it around the elastic. Secure the end with a bobby pin beneath your pony-tail. Voila! You’ve now taken your pony from puny to polished!

  1. Nails: There’s a new nail color in town, and it’s NOT greige. This season, fatigue green is all the craze on runways and red carpets alike. This militaristic green will pair perfectly with the changing leaves and the darkening of your wardrobe. Try Sephora by OPI Safari Luxe Collection in Caught with my Khakis Down (Sephora, $9.50).

  1. Makeup: For fall, go bold or barely there. I’m seeing red over the lack of this classic color. Deep crimsons are back and I don’t think anything pairs better with a peacoat, but a red pout. For an all night look try M.A.C. Lipstick in Russian Red (M.A.C. or department stores, $14.50).

There’s a reverse trend in the makeup world as well, barely there nudes. Work a natural look with a lip gloss like Benefit’s Lip Plump (Sephora or department stores, $22) with a dot of blush, try a cream rather than powder for all day stay, on the apples of your cheeks. Since you wont be wearing much makeup, lightly blend the blush all the way up by your eyes. This will make you look wide awake and refreshed. If this is all a little too naked for you, sweep on a light volumizing mascara like Covergirl’s NatureLuxe Mousse Mascara (drugstores, $8.99)
