The Grown-Up Eloise Aesthetic Is All Over TikTok, So Here’s How To Get The Look

If you live at the Plaza Hotel — or, if you remember her books and movies from your childhood — then you might be familiar with Eloise, the bow-wearing, messy-haired 6-year-old who lives on the top floor. What I didn’t realize when I was younger is that Eloise is also a fashion icon.

As Gen Z rediscovers Eloise at Christmastime on Amazon Prime, TikTok has had a sudden renaissance of Eloise-inspired looks. Many users have put a mature spin on Eloise’s trademark style, taking inspiration from runway fashion and brands like Hill House. The Grown Up Eloise lookbook is endless — but what exactly does it entail?

Think Blair Waldorf, but with a hint of whimsy and coquettishness. Eloise is mischievous, yet refined — these traits are reflected in what she wears, from her staple hair ribbons to her Peter Pan collar blouses. (Also, don’t be afraid to embrace your unbrushed hair.) Although Eloise is used to sporting designer names, you don’t have to drop thousands of dollars to recreate her style. You can still look — as Eloise likes to say — “très élégant” on a budget. Before you can start to assemble the Grown Up Eloise outfit of your dreams, you’ll need to get the essentials.

Loafers

You’ll need something comfortable on your feet for all your adventures into the city (or for running around the Plaza). In the books and movies, Eloise is seen rocking a pair of black Mary Janes. While these shoes are adorable, loafers might be a more sophisticated option — if that’s the look you’re going for. The Creedence Penny Loafers from Princess Polly ($69) are undoubtedly on Eloise’s endless Christmas list.

Striped Pajama Set

While Eloise often sleeps with a “DO NOT DISTURB” sign around her neck, that accessory is totally optional. What would really complete the Grown Up Eloise ensemble is a striped pajama set, like this Flannel Long Pajama Set from Victoria’s Secret ($40).

Beret & Fuzzy Mittens

You’ll need to bundle up for a winter in New York. Eloise looks perfectly cozy in her festive red coat, but the real stars of the show are her mittens and hat. For a look inspired by Eloise’s shopping outfit, try this Large Brim Beret Hat from Etsy ($23) and these Cuddl Duds Faux-Fur Cuff Leather Gloves ($31).

Jumper Dress

If you’re anything like Eloise, you can never have too many jumper dresses. While I can’t guarantee they’ll keep you warm this holiday season, they’ll make your outfits more classy and chic. Adult Eloise would totally buy the Vivian Mini from Free People ($78), as well as the 2-in-1 Pleated Black Pinny Dress from ASOS ($25).

Bows Galore

Any clothing piece with a bow on it is suitable. As I previously mentioned, you can’t go wrong with a classic hair ribbon. To add a pop of color in your hair, check out these Bow Barrettes from Anthropologie ($16). If you’re willing to splurge, the Pointelle Knit Collared Sweater from Nordstrom ($89) fits Eloise’s style perfectly.
