Go Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Tips for Pink Makeup

In celebration of Breast Cancer Awareness month, collegiettes everywhere are flaunting their favorite pink fashions, but what about makeup? Wearing pink makeup can be tricky to pull off, because often times it can make you look tired or sick. But, if you follow the tips below, then you can be sure to pull off your pink makeup in style!

Tip #1: Blend pink eye shadow with shades of taupe or tan. Pink eye shadow can be especially difficult to pull off, but the trick to making it look glamorous is to make sure you’re blending your shades of pink with shades of taupe or tan. The Sephora Makeup Made Simple BCA Palette has a number of great shades of pink (and they donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale to Breast Cancer research).

What I like to do is (after applying a primer to my eye lids) apply the pink shadow all over the inner two-thirds of my eyelid. Then, I take a soft brown shade (again, the Sephora palette has a ton of options) and using a fluffy brush I blend this along the top of the pink shade and into my crease to create some definition. If I want to darken up the look a bit, I will take a darker taupe or brown shade and place this color on the outer third of my eye lid. Make sure to finish off the look with a coat of masacara, like this one from Josie Maran (which will benefit her GOGO campaign).

Tip #2: Use lip liner to keep Pink lipstick looking fresh all day. Nothing looks worse than lipstick that is smeared on and bleeding outside of your lip line! That is why lining your lips is key to keeping your lip-look fresh all day long. Use a muted pink or neutral liner to line you entire lips, and then if you want some extra staying power you can fill in your lips with the liner too. Next, apply your pink lipstick color of choice. Finally, use a concealer brush and clean up the edges of your lips with a concealer that is about 1-2 shades lighter than your natural skin tone to create crisp edges. Then of course, to add some shine, top off the look with a pretty pink gloss, like one of these from Sephora

Tip #3: Avoid looking doll-like with pink blush by either applying it toward the inside of the apples of your cheeks or along the tops of your cheek bones. Before we skip ahead to the blush tip, make sure that your skin is soft and moisturized the blush goes on smoothly. You can use a moisturizer like the Clinique Dramaticall Different Moisturizing Lotion (Bonus: $10 of your purchase will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation!). Now, when it comes to blush application, putting your blush on in the right place can make all the difference in the world! When you apply it right in the middle of your cheeks, it can look like you just took a trip to the fair and got some fancy face paint. By applying the blush where your face would naturally look flushed you avoid the creepy, doll-like look! You can also use a little bronzer to help blend the blush naturally into your skin.
