The Kardashians

Say what you will about the Kardashians, but I love them: my friend and I had Keeping Up with the Kardashians viewing parties over the summer and I am guilty of watching all four hours of the wedding special. Dressing up as the Kardashians is a fabulous costume idea. Since their family is so big, you can include a bunch of friends by having girls dress up as Kendall, Kylie, and Kris Jenner. You can even force your guy friends to dress up as Bruce, Rob, Scott, Lamar, and Kris Humphries!  But for now, let’s focus on dressing up as Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney. To distinguish each Kardashian sister from the next, you can add DASH nametags to your costumes.

KimThe most important part of  this costume is emulating Kim’s assets. To recreate Kim’s figure, put small pillows- or tiny towels- in a pair of spandex shorts and wear a bodycon dress to show off your curves. You’ll be mistaken for Kim Kardashian herself!

Khloe: This Kardashian sister loves her leopard print so emulating Khloe is as easy as finding a leopard mini dress and pairing it with some killer heels. Add a blazer so you won’t be mistaken for a sexy cheetah!

Kourtney: I personally love Kourtney because she is so trendy. Since she sports many different styles, patterns, and silhouettes,  you have the most creative freedom with this sister. To distinguish yourself from your other friends, rock a bright lip – Kourtney’s a big fan of red lipstick lately- and carry a baby doll around.

What if you’re not blessed with Kardashian-worthy hair? No worries, fashionistas, you have options: find a brunette wig or create loose curls  in order  to keep up with the Kardashians!

The Spice Girls

Who doesn’t love a good 90’s throwback?  This Halloween, spice up your and your friends’ lives by dressing up as the Spice Girls! This idea is simple because most of the costume pieces can be found in your closet. Unless someone lived under a rock during the 90’s, everyone will know who you and your friends are!

Posh Spice: Remember that scene in Spice World where Posh Spice is deciding if she should wear the little Gucci dress or the little Gucci dress? Your chic costume is as easy as that! Get that LBD out of  your closet and style it with your fiercest heels. If you don’t have short and sleek hair like Victoria Beckham and don’t want to invest in a wig, pull your hair into a stylish ponytail.

Baby Spice: It’s pretty likely that either you or one of your friends have a plain Oxford shirt. Style the blouse with a miniskirt, high socks, and white sneakers in order to copy Baby Spice’s look. Don’t forget to put your hair in pigtails!

Sporty Spice: Dressing like Sporty Spice is as easy as getting dressed for the gym, literally! For this costume, wear a colorful sports bra, a tank top, a pair of  sweatpants, and some sneakers. With a few finishing touches- a hair ponytail and drawing the Sporty Spice tattoos on your upper arm, for example- you’ll look just like Mel C!

Ginger Spice: If you can’t find the iconic Ginger Spice dress, don’t fret: there are alternatives when dressing up as this Spice Girl. Rocking a vintage tee and denim shorts is just one good idea! Thrifts stores are great places to find vintage tees. While wearing a vintage shirt with the Union Jack on it is ideal, any vintage tee will do if you’re pressed for time. Styling the shirt with denim cut-offs, tights, and combat boots will really say, “Girl Power.”  Purchase a redhead wig and you’ll be ready to go!

Scary Spice: Scary Spice was definitely the fiercest Spice Girl so have your most fearless friend dress up as her for Halloween!  Find an animal print top, a pair of shiny leggings, and some combat boots for this look. The finishing touch is a crazy wig!

A Compilation of “Britney Moments”

Without a doubt, Britney Spears is one of the biggest pop stars of our generation. Not only has she achieved musical success, but she’s also rocked several iconic looks. You and your friends can each dress up as your favorite “Britney moments.” I love this idea because it’s fun, easy, and gives your costume some individuality. Here are a few of my personal favorites!

“Baby One More Time” Britney: Britney’s schoolgirl look would make a great costume because it is so iconic. Similar to the Baby Spice costume, you’re going to need a solid Oxford shirt, a miniskirt, and  a pair of high socks. To Britney-ize this outfit, add a cardigan, a black bra, and a pair of penny loafers. Finish this costume by braiding your hair and attaching pom-poms to the top of each braid. The perfect blast from the past!

“Oops I Did it Again” Britney:  You don’t need to find a red spandex suit to perfect this “Britney moment:” a red turtleneck and a pair of red leggings will be just fine! If you don’t have black sneakers, black boots are a great alternative. Lucky for you, this costume doesn’t require a crazy hairstyle: just straighten your hair and you’re good to go. To go the extra mile, memorize the “Oops” dance…as if you haven’t already!

“Mrs. K-Fed” Britney: Although most of us like to pretend that Britney’s “K-Fed” era didn’t happen, this costume is perfect for a collegiette™ who prefers dressing down. All you need is a white tee, a zip-up hoodie, a pair of denim cut-offs, and a trucker hat. Adding funny accessories- like a McDonalds’ bag- is a great way to get in the zone. Don’t forget to finish off the look with flip-flops: walking barefoot, as Britney once did, is a style DON’T.

“Toxic” Britney:  Believe it or not, there is a way to wear this look without leaving the dorm half-naked. A chic and appropriate alternative to this risqué look is a sequined dress. A sparkling mini is great because you’ll be able to wear it again. Finish this look with high heels and wavy hair. Also, dusting your arms ands legs with a shimmering powder will give your costume that “Toxic” glow.

Miss America Pageant Queens

I don’t know about you, but I think that Miss Congeniality is a stellar movie: Sandra Bullock was absolutely hysterical in it! Dressing up as beauty pageant contestants with your friends is the perfect way to channel your inner Gracie Lou Freebush. The great thing about this costume is that you don’t need to match your friends  perfectly. Dressing up as a pageant contestant is as simple as taking a mini dress and some heels out of your closet.  After that, all you need is a tiara and a pageant sash, which you can easily make out of  an old shirt and fabric markers. Don’t forget to work on your pageant wave!

Charlie’s Angels

There’s nothing like taking a classic costume- like the Charlie’s Angels ladies-and giving it a sexy twist.  Dressing as the power trio is as easy as one…two… three! In order to achieve that sexy spy look, it’s all about head-to-toe black: shirt, leggings, and boots. To give your costume an angelic vibe, pick up a pair of small angel wings. This costume is chic, easy, and comfortable!
