Fashion Recap: The Emmy Awards

Celebrity fashion is always the talk of the town, but no other night is as big of a deal as an award show! Tons of celebs in glamorous designer couture, all in one place? It’s heaven on (red-carpeted) earth for fashion-lovers!

Last night’s 65th Emmy Awards show was certainly no exception, as all our fave men and women of TV brought their glamour A-game to the Nokia Theatre in LA. What were the big red-carpet trends? How did the men do? Did young Hollywood impress or disappoint? Here’s our recap of the best and the worst looks on television’s biggest night.

Best Dressed:

  1. Kaley Cuoco in Vera Wang

The Big Bang Theory beauty really brought it tonight, sporting a gorgeous oxblood number. While many actresses failed to pull off the full-skirt look, Cuoco’s perfectly accentuates her flawless figure. The hair and makeup bring a little bit of edge- she looks like a glam-rock princess. It’s definitely her best award show look to date!

2) Elisabeth Moss in Andrew Gn

We’re loving Elisabeth Moss’s glam makeover! The cropped platinum blonde hair works on her (and no, she’s not copying Miley, she tells E!), and she puts a number of the year’s hottest trends- color blocking, black and white, AND texture- to work here. The twice-nominated actress may not have brought home a statuette tonight, but she wins a spot on the Best Dressed list, for sure!

3) Heidi Klum in Versace

While nobody on the red carpet could agree on what color Klum was wearing (Purple? Burgundy? Pomegranate, as Tim Gunn called it?), there’s no denying that only Klum could rock a dress this bold. The high neck, sequined detailing, and curve-hugging silhouette is a lot to handle, but Heidi doesn’t let the gown wear her for a second. Here’s hoping she doesn’t say auf wiedersehn to her current stylist for finding this gem!

Honorable Mentions: Allison Williams (in Ralph Lauren), Zooey Deschanel (in J. Mendel), Anna Gunn (in Romona Keveza), and Melissa Rauch (in Rubin Singer).

Worst Dressed

1) Lena Dunham in Prada

While there are a million things I could say about this dress, we’ll sum it up by quoting Dunham’s own sister, as tweeted a few days ago by Dunham herself: “It’s like the Delia’s catalogue made a red carpet dress!” (Note: the Delia’s catalogue should never, ever be the inspiration for a red carpet dress.) There are a lot of ways for a curvy starlet to look gorgeous and put-together on the red carpet, but this full-skirted vacation sarong is not one of them.

2) Jessica Paré in Oscar de la Renta

Jessica Paré is a gorgeous woman, but this dress doesn’t do her justice. The seams are reminiscent of Lena Dunham’s mistake of a gown from the 2013 Golden Globes and don’t flatter her small frame. She actually looks big! It’s far too much fabric, and the bow on the chest is not very well-shaped. On the brighter side, the color is gorgeous on her. Unfortunately, it’s not enough to redeem the look overall.

3) Lily Rabe, in Vionnet

This dress is downright confusing. While the color is striking with Rabe’s hair and statement lip color, it looks like there wasn’t enough of one material to make a dress, so they ripped a few ruched pieces off of another dress to finish it. The two materials don’t work together at all. I do give Rabe credit for trying- not even Heidi Klum could wear this dress and make it look good.

Honorable mentions: Julianne Hough (in Jenny Packham), Zosia Mamet (in Honor), January Jones (in Givenchy), and Kate Mara (in J. Mendel).
