It’s admitted students weekend here at Harvard, one of the busiest of the semester. In our effort to sway freshmen’s matriculation decisions, we offer endless, varied activities (for instance, as I write, there’s some heavy metal death band concert going on across the street…).
I showered after a quick mid-afternoon workout. My shower clocked in at a hair under three minutes, and I jumped out, invigorated and ready to keep going. I’m hosting two prospective students, so I spent a lot of time getting them settled in before they took off for their activities. In between retrieving the girls from the admissions office, I went to the campus Earth Day celebration.
There was lots of free food- I got to try walnut and pistachio butters for the first time, booths for green student groups, and some local green market representatives. If you go to school in the Boston/Cambridge area, drop by the Harvest Co-Op sometime! Their booth was really awesome, and it looks like they sell a terrific variety of green food and personal care products. One of my favorite stations was the “green your dorm room” booth, where they had bottled water taste tests (I was totally off- I thought that Poland Spring was tap water…). I also got to sort a bin full of trash and recyclables into separate trash and recycling bins (everything was fairly clean) as part of the recycling quiz.
I was so tuckered out from the day that I ended up taking a “twenty minute” (inflated into two hours- how does this always happen??) nap, from which I just woke up. Now it’s time to go out and show some pre-frosh what a party looks like! One of my friends from Texas is hosting a “honky tonk” party tonight. I don’t own anything remotely Texas-themed, so I painted in my nails in cow print. Not very green of me, but hopefully the water my short shower conserved today makes up for the horrible stuff lurking in my nail polish! Okay, I’ll stop trying to kid myself. Hope you guys have a great Saturday night!
