Earth Lovers: Even Nerds Can Be Happy

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Today’s shower time: last night – pretty quick (5ish minutes of water use), today will be even quicker
The shower situation: after a run, before Emily’s birthday celebration (happy birthday again!)
Why you should come back tomorrow: to see my next FlipCam video and for a great rundown of how to be eco friendly and well-groomed (beauty and clothes people!)

I have to confess something. I feel bad that I’ve been lying. Well, not lying so much as not being overly forthcoming. Anyways, let me get it out: I’m a huge nerd.

It’s not really my fault. I was born into it. My grandpa once told me to tell my dad a grown man shouldn’t watch cartoons. That was no use. When our house flooded the most valuable thing we lost – my dad’s comic books. And my sister? She might be even worse than my dad. It’s my sister that introduced me to my three favorite shows: The West Wing, Veronica Mars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. What you should gather from this is 1) We’re usually talking, writing or reading about politics. 2) If we’re not doing that we’re admiring vampire slayers and 16-year-old private i’s.

We might all love sports, but we’re super geeky. What do you find under our Christmas tree? Books – lots of books. Plus, DVDs featuring superheroes and space creatures. It doesn’t help that my boyfriend is a Trekkie.

This leads me to my next point. Today is our 1.5 year anniversary. We’re celebrating with a Scream marathon. I’ve actually hit a new low but I don’t care. I’m extremely excited. We’ll also make a pizza. I’m sure you’ll see pictures of it later.

This will be the perfect middle of an already wonderful week. I’m loving this challenge, enjoying thinking and talking about the environment and summer is on the horizon.

In more environment related news, my dad sent me a link to an interesting website today. One of the topics on the site is the water shortage. Some 400 million school-aged children worldwide have worms, according to the World Health Organization. The site has some other interesting links, including ones on the environmental sustainability of each country.

One thing that’s sustainable – my tea! I just happened to look at the back and its certified by the Rainforest Alliance. I love that it’s so easy to find organic tea. I always get really excited when I find products that are good for the environment.

All hail Joss Whedon
