Earth Lovers: Earth Loving Links

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Wow.  I can’t believe I’ve already been taking three-minute showers for one whole week!  It takes a lot of effort at first, but taking three minute showers get easier day after day (and it’s definitely worth it in the long run).  We all know that reducing our shower time is the most obvious way to help conserve water, but what are other actions we can take? To celebrate our one-week mark, here’s a little carousel of links to help you get through your next week of three-minute showers!

“If you want to make your dreams come true, the first thing you need to do is wake up”—J.M. Power.  If we want to turn today into a better tomorrow, we need to get out of bed and start implementing an Earth Lover Life!  Can’t resist pushing that snooze button once or twice (or five times)? Try waking up to a new, upbeat song every day.  Try this, this, or this to jump-start your next few days.

Did you know that simply smelling coffee can help wake you up in the morning?  If you’re not alert enough to brew a cup of joe when you first wake up, try using The Body Shop’s Lemon and Thyme or the Cucumber and Mint Shower Gel in your morning shower—smelling citrus and mint have also been proven to boost your mood and help make you more alert.

Did you know you can save up to 3,700 gallons of water per year by switching from a meat-based diet to a vegan diet?  And it’s not as hard as you think! Check out some yummy vegan recipies and desserts to try out for yourself!

Hundreds of thousands of whales, dolphins, sea turtles and other marine mammals die every year after eating discarded plastic bags they mistake for food.  Help save the sea-life by using a stylish reusable bag when you go to the grocery store.

Want to take a little bit of green with you wherever you go?  Make a fashion statement and wear this necklace to show your Earth Day pride.

Need a little help limiting your shower to three-minutes?  Use these eco-friendly speakers and blast your favorite three-minute song. When the song is over, shower time is up! (but you can still blast the music while your get ready for the day)

And if you can’t seem to stop rocking out to your favorite tunes in the shower, try using this nifty shower timer to see exactly how long you’re taking to wash up.

xoxo

Melanie Shimano (Johns Hopkins University, '13) is a Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering major originally from Orange County, California. She is currently involved in research at the Johns Hopkins Hospital and also spends her time with various on-campus groups including her sorority (Phi Mu!), Jaywalk Dance Team, and AIChE/SBE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers/Society for Biological Engineers). When she's not busy with school, some of her favorite things to do are shopping, hanging out with friends, and eating sprinkles cupcakes. And she definitely looks forward to going to the beach when she visits back home during breaks since it rains in Balitmore almost every day (but she still loves Hopkins).
