Earth Lovers: Ahead of Her Time

Today’s shower time: timer is still on vacay but it was honestly pretty quick (6ish minutes)
The shower situation: had to be quick between a run and Sarah getting here
Why you should come back tomorrow: to see how the weekend wound up, and how today’s sidewalk sale pans out

My weekend is off to a great start. Everyone made it safe and sound, although as soon as they all started heading this way it went from sunny and beautiful to rainy and chilly.

Today’s short shower paid off because Sarah called while I was finishing up. Don’t tell her that because she thinks I was done and on my down the stairs to get her. If it was an old Alissa shower, Sarah would’ve been driving up and down Green Street for a good hour. As it is, today she only had to wait for… less than that.

My mom also did some traveling today. She drove to Rockford to spend the weekend with my grandma. My grandma just got back from Phoenix, where she lives part of the year. If you haven’t met either of these women – you’re missing out. They are both incredible. My grandma is the original green thinker. She’s always told everyone to save water and turn the lights off. She’s also the most fun grandma you’ll ever meet. I won’t include her age but let me tell you most of her peers are not exercising daily and watching Cowboys games at the bar. Yes, I said Cowboys games. Everyone has to have faults. She’s a Skype queen and constantly makes me laugh.

My mom is a pretty neat lady herself. She’s also mastered short showers. She takes the shortest of anyone in our immediate family. It’s probably because she’s learned to get out of the shower before we even get upstairs. My Aunt Wendy said having two teenage daughters is key to taking short showers. I’d guess that my mom agrees.

It wouldn’t be right to talk about my grandma and mom without mentioning my sister – another amazing lady, and one who is very eco conscious. My mom always jokes that she dreads when my sister comes home because there are so many new rules. We have to get eco friendly party silverware (although that’s still not very good for the planet). My sister is a Teach for America alum still based in Phoenix.

These women are a part of my desire to take this challenge. They’ve taught me so much – and only annoyed me a little bit.
