Earth Lovers: From 40 to 3?

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Today’s shower time: 8 minutes (my quickest ever and best smelling with The Body Shop products)
The shower situation: 15 minutes to get ready between a run and a show
Why you should come back tomorrow: to get in the shower with one of my best friends

My dad will tell you I need two hours to get ready. He’ll tell you, and rightfully so, that the majority of that time is spent in the shower. And, despite urgings from Jennifer Aniston, I’ve yet to cut down on the amount of water I soak in every day. My average shower? 30-40 minutes. A long shower? My roommates have been to several classes and back.

To be honest – I have no idea how it’s even possible to take a three minute shower. But I’m going to try as part of this challenge with The Body Shop & Her Campus. I’m going to try because I think it’s our responsibility to start thinking about the future. Our water sources aren’t infinite and 1,000,000 people don’t have access to clean water. I’ve been meaning to get started, and this is the perfect source of inspiration! Please join me. Since I told my friends about this challenge a few have stepped up, but haven’t gotten clean in under 3 yet.

The challenge has also inspired me to become more environmentally friendly in other ways. I am going to cut my plastic use down. My friends joke that I’m constantly going to the bathroom. But the truth is

I drink a lot of water. And everyone should! Today I filled a reusable bottle at least 6 times.

But we all need to be more considerate when it comes to our beverages. College is fast-paced. We roll out of bed (approximately 15 minutes before class starts), hustle to work, run to grab a bite to eat, and we still have to fit the gym, friends, studying and everything else into the equation.

Water is my drink of choice. I rarely drink anything else. Well, that or tea or wine, but I have yet to stoop to drinking wine between classes. Yet. I am a second semester senior. As a runner, I need a lot of H20. It’s not fair to the environment or future generations that I usually drink out of plastic bottles or garbage dump filling coffee cups.

So – I’m going to use this challenge to revamp my life. So please join me while I set out to make the world a little bit better. Let me know how you guys conserve water or help the environment. I’m looking to make any positive changes so I’d love to hear from you!
