Cheap chic chain stores have changed the face of American fashion. It used to be that fashion trends were only for those who could afford to buy designer pieces. However, the huge variety of costume jewelry, for example, proves that fashion can be found at shockingly good prices.

From designer costume jewelry, to ethnic jewelry, department store knock offs, and costume jewelry boutiques, striving to be a fashionista for less has become very popular. The top Hollywood starlets will all agree that sometimes it is best to let the accessory take center stage.

Take a look at the most notable accessory picks.

1. Bangles.

The young and cool wear colorful plastic versions with their t-shirts and converses. Actresses choose to wear a pile of thin gold bangles with their red carpet dress, and the modern bohemian girls play around with funky Indian or African styled bangles.

2. Charm Bracelet
A charm bracelet can be the most precious piece of jewelry in your collection. Charm bracelets are pure expressions of your creativity. As you continue to add charms to your bracelet, years go by, and each charm promotes a story or specific meaning behind it. Its like a diary but worn on your wrist!

3. Cocktail Ring
Waving your ring around as you tell a story or adding a bit of edge to your conservative work outfit, hands down, a cocktail ring is one of the best ways to show you’ve got style. Its all about size and making that statement. And a great cocktail ring can totally be costume jewelry- in some cases a big vintage fake is even preferred.

4. A Statement Necklace

A statement necklace is large and bold. As with a cocktail ring, the necklace should be big. And its best if you own several. The beauty of owning a collection of statement jewelry is that they let you wear your standby Little Black Dress time after time again. So remember your look will never get tired when coupled with the right statement necklace.

5. Hoop Earrings

Like the diamond stud, they do not have to be real to do the job. They can be bought in array of styles and sizes. My opinion, stick to gold or silver. And in general, the thinner the better. The bigger and more refined a gold hoop is, the sexier and younger it looks. The smaller and chunkier, the more classic and sophisticated it becomes.

So lesson be learnt: With the invention of the new, the old, the fake, the designer, and the homemade, costume jewelry- like plastic Chanel logo earrings, an a African bead necklace, or fake layered pearls- you’re outfit can easily be tweaked with just a few additional accessory!

For my first day of preschool I had three staple accessories: Bright pink lipstick, an old leather pocketbook, and my multi-patterned dress- even at a young age, I was boldy flaunting my unmistakable passion for fashion. That deep love for all things trendly ultimately carried me through the next sixteen years of my life. From party dresses to vintage shoes and eclectic accessories, style was always a key component to my existence. My previous internships as a freelance writer and a marketing intern at Turner PR, showed me how important the field of communications can be. And thus I have begun to explore how easily paralleled the worlds of fashion and communications are while working as both a fashion blogger and PR intern at Her Campus!
