A Collegiette’s Guide to Styling a Sheer Blouse

As the temperature rises and summer vacation gets closer and closer, you’ll want to start showing off a little more skin. Admit it, collegiettes: the days of cozy sweaters and layers galore were starting to cramp your style. One of my absolute favorite ways to show some skin this spring is with a sheer blouse. Not only does this piece give your fashion-forward outfit some sex appeal, it’s also extremely versatile. Today’s your lucky day, fashionistas- yours truly is giving you a crash course in how to rock a sheer blouse by styling one shirt five different ways.

Look 1:  Never Underestimate the Power of Ripped Jeans

(Jeans: Joe’s Jeans; Boots: Enzo Angiolini)

For a downtown chic look, sport your favorite sheer blouse with a pair of ripped jeans. Can we say effortlessly sexy? Give this look a hint of structure with a pair of riding boots. Polished and sultry in one look? It’s almost too good to be true! This ensemble is great for date night- the sheer blouse leaves just enough to the imagination while the ripped jeans are super down-to-earth. What guy wouldn’t love this outfit?

Look 2: Unleash Your Inner Girly Girl

(Skirt: Topshop)

Not in the mood to let your inner temptress shine? No worries, fashionistas: sheer blouses can also be feminine. Pair your blouse with a girly skirt (lace or floral is ideal). Add a cute pair of flats and you have the perfect outfit for lunching with your girlfriends.

Look 3: Add a Pattern

(Printed Jeans: Seven for All Mankind)

Feeling a little risky? A funky pair of pants is the perfect way to give this blouse a contemporary twist. With this look, the blouse will act as a neutral; however, the different textures will make you the latest trendsetter on campus. Want to kick this edgy look into high gear?  Rock a red lip with this ensemble and head to lecture!

Look 4: Black on Black:

(Trousers: Topshop)

Call me overtly urban, but there’s nothing sleeker than a black on black look. A pair of black trousers is not only undeniably chic, it also allows the sheerness of your blouse to shine through (no pun intended). Heading out to frat row? Swap the trousers for black jeans and add a killer pair of heels.

Look 5: Layer!

(Leather Vest: Barney’s New York CO-OP)

Sheer blouses are so much fun to wear, but they’re not always the most appropriate choice.  Meeting your boyfriend’s parents in just a sheer blouse may give them the wrong idea. For a demure look that still allows you to wear your blouse with pride, add a vest! Don’t worry, stylistas: this look is still edgy. For a finishing touch, add a pair of statement earrings.
