Calling all animal lovers: luxury brand Coach is going fur-free! According to Business of Fashion, Coach has promised to stop using fur just in time for its Fall 2019 collection. Does this mean the fashion industry is going fur-free? Coach is just the latest fashion house of many like Gucci, Michael Kors, and Burberry to join the anti-fur movement.
Coach has announced that they will be banning all types of animal fur, a few being mink, coyote, and fox; these have been Coach cult-favorites for the entirety of the brand’s shiny existence. However, the empire will still be using shearling, mohair, and angora within their designs so you can still have that luxurious feel, according to InStyle.

“We understood from our employee population and from our consumers that it was important to them that we take a stand on this issue”, Coach chief executive Joshua Schulman told Business of Fashion. While fur only makes up 1 percent of Coach’s womenswear, it’s still expensive to take the fur babies off the table. Thankfully, Coach had a good year in 2017 when the fashion empire earned $4.11 billion in net sales.

Animal-rights activist protesting has also increased to an all-time high, which means that the loss of a few million dollars is worth it to the fashion houses to gain back loyalty from animal-loving customers (let’s be real, that’s all of us). Additionally, since so many anti-fur policies have been implemented by huge brands like Versace, the notion has garnered more peace and support than ever. Yes, fur was once a symbol for wealth, but 2018 has proven to be the year that changed how we view chinchilla coats. We can’t wait to see what’s in store for the future of fashion.
