8 Halloween Costumes for Fashion Nerds

Not into the idea of dressing up as a French maid or a sexy cheetah this year? Show off your style (instead of your skin!) by dressing up in a fashion-inspired costume. Your style savvy ensemble is sure to impress—and your costume will definitely earn you a spot on your Halloween party’s best-dressed list.

1. Anna Wintour

Who hasn’t dreamed of being Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief for a night? Take on Anna’s iconic look with a classic chin length bob wig, big black sunglasses, and a tailored two-piece suit. Don’t forget a copy of Vogue to carry around with you!

2. Betsey Johnson

Go for a fun, over-the-top look by dressing up as fashion designer Betsey Johnson. Find yourself a crimped blonde wig with bangs (that you can style as crazily as you’d like!), a pink tutu, black and white knee-highs, and chunky jewelry. Add some bright red or pink lipstick, dark eye makeup, and be sure to exit each party you attend that night with a cartwheel.

3. The Man Repeller

Ditch the sexy look and spend the night as everyone’s favorite fashion blogger Leandra Medine. Pair some drop-waist harem pants with penny loafers, floral ankle socks, a tucked-in collared shirt, and a jacket with shoulder pads. Throw on a crazy-print backpack, and get ready to repel some men (or, at least, confuse them a little bit).

4. Bill Cunningham

Become the official photographer for the night by dressing up as one of the most famous fashion photographers around. To transform yourself into the famed picture-taker, all you have to do is don his trademark cobalt-blue jacket and a pair of khakis. Don’t forget to wear your trusty Nikon around your neck and take plenty of pictures!

5. The Devil Wears Prada

This year, transform yourself into Miranda Priestly! Dress up in a fitted dress and furs, and paint the soles of a pair of pumps red to get that iconic Christian Louboutin look. For a finishing touch, add some devil’s horns and a tail – even the least fashion-conscious party guests will get the joke.

6. Karl Lagerfeld

Spend the night mingling as one of the industry’s most respected (and iconic) fashion designers. To get his look, spray your hair with some temporary white hair spray and slick it back into a low pony. Complete your costume with some black shades, a black jacket, and white shirt with a high starched collar. Don’t forget your spray tan!

7. Holly Golightly

No one is quite as chic as Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Transform yourself into the movie icon with a little black dress, a pair of black gloves, and some pointy black heels. Add some pearl earrings and a matching pearl necklace and throw your hair into a classic up-do, and you’ll be ready to charm everyone you meet.

8. Donatella Versace

It’s finally your chance to break out that floor-length gown that’s been hanging in your closet since prom. Become the famed Italian fashion designer for the night by sporting a platinum blonde wig, flat-ironed so that it’s stick-straight, and a heavy spray tan. Throw on a skin-tight gown (preferably one with sequins!), dark eye makeup, and don’t forget to coat your lips with a generous helping of lip plumper.
