Can We Talk About The Meme-Worthy Viktor & Rolf Dresses That Everyone's Tweeting About?

Viktor & Rolf's Spring '19 Couture collection, rightly titled 'Fashion Statements', nearly broke the internet after debuting at last week's Paris Couture Fashion Week. Oversized tulle gowns marched down the runway declaring millennial-friendly things like 'Leave Me Alone' and 'I Am My Own Muse' (big mood). As if neon colors, exaggerated sleeves, and countless ruffles weren't eye-catching enough, each dress was plastered with an oversized and iconic phrase or image.

Just a few of our faves? A pyramid of periwinkle blue ruffles sported 'NO' in massive red letters (feel that). A neon-green puff flaunted a weed-leaf, while a sunshine-colored princess gown had a flaming skull captioned 'Go To Hell'. With eighteen looks to choose from, there's honestly a gown for every mood in the collection.

Immediately following the show, fashion editors, Instagram influencers and meme accounts alike put the show on blast. In an age where high fashion has become dictated by social media marketing, retweets, and click-bait news, Viktor & Rolf seemed to give the people exactly what they asked for. But the show urged viewers to ask themselves: has the once uber-exclusive world of couture fashion been overexposed to the masses?

Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren, the brand's co-designers, are known for being extra. The duo's Fall '15 line turned models into literal paintings. They responded to the rise of fashion in Fall '08 with a big fat 'no'. Oh yeah, and we can't forget about this gem.  While seeming light-hearted and fun, each of their tongue-in-cheek looks, are, dare we say, a little W-O-K-E.
