Barbie Ferreira is Done With the Fashion Industry’s Ridiculous Standards

Every year fashion trends come and go, but one thing stays constant: the unrealistic expectation fashion designers have for women’s bodies.

Models like Ashley Graham prove what some members of the fashion industry still fail to understand, which is that all women are beautiful and come in different shapes in sizes. Despite the progress Graham and other curvy models have made, the idea of the “perfect” woman remains.

Earlier this week, Saturday Night Live star Leslie Jones tweeted about her struggle in finding a designer who would be willing to dress her for the upcoming premiere of Ghostbusters.

Designer and Project Runway winner Christian Siriano stepped up to work with Jones, and she will no doubt look flawless. But, Siriano should not have been the only designer to stick up for Jones, and 19-year-old model Barbie Ferreira agrees.

Ferreira labels herself as a curvy model and has posed for brands like Aerie and ASOS. She also took to Twitter to voice her disappointment toward the fashion world.

She could not fathom why fashion designers only cater towards one type of woman.

She too has experienced the same problem that Jones faced.

She wonders when the industry will finally change its judgmental ways.

It’s about time this changed.
