Internet sensation Amelia Dimoldenberg left her flashcards at home to walk The Fashion Awards red carpet on Dec. 4 in London, proving that ribbons and bows aren’t just for presents, they’re one of this season’s hottest trends too. The Chicken Shop Date host stunned in a Chopova Lowena suit complete with an abundance of metallic hooks and charms, as well as long black and white ribbons hanging from her jacket bodice and sleeves.
She shared the look with her 1.6 million followers on Instagram writing, “It suits me 😎 British Fashion Awards wearing custom @chopovalowena 💫 jewellery @theofficialpandora Congratulations to @chopovalowena for winning New Establishment Womenswear Award 🏆 very well deserved!”
The London-based brand was founded by Emma Chopova and Laura Lowena-Irons in 2017, and is known for their focus on sustainability, using recycled materials and deadstock textiles to ethically create high-quality garments.
I have to wonder if one of those recycled materials happened to be the key hanging from Dimoldenberg’s suit, which she cheekily described as the “key to her heart” on her IG stories and in her comments.
With her slicked-back hair and expertly-lined dark lips, this look is just one of Dimoldenberg’s many high-fashion moments from a standout year. From flirting with Andrew Garfield at the 80th Golden Globe Awards in January, to hosting the European premiere of Barbie (dressed as the 2010 News Anchor Barbie, no less!) in July, to attending the Maison Valentino show at Paris Fashion Week in October, Dimoldenberg has solidified her presence in the media industry as the “refreshingly awkward” host of choice and a low-key fashion It Girl.
Honestly, I should’ve known she was that girl a year ago at her first Fashion Awards red carpet — where she beat us all to the ribbons and bows trend — wearing a custom silk charmeuse gown by Coach that featured a bow under the collar and hand-embroidered daisy appliqués. I mean, she even accessorized with black bow earrings! Talk about staying on top of the trends!!
To follow Dimoldenberg’s lead and finally join in on the ribbons and bows trend, try incorporating them into your accessories! A few ribbons tied around your purse handle, your shoes, or even in your hair can be a subtle way to elevate any look. Or, if you’re really committed, try pinning some ribbon to the sleeves, collar, or buttons of your favorite chunky sweater for a delicate touch.
I’m so excited to see how Dimoldenberg will continue her red carpet reign in the new year. Here’s to manifesting many more awkward and fashionable moments. Who knows, maybe she’ll return to her fashion communication roots and blend her passions to give me the Anna Wintour Chicken Shop Date I’ve been waiting for. It’s a long shot, but a girl can dream!
